His den is the largest in the lair, and it doubles as the lair's library. Scrolls, books, and timid insects all find a home there. Jachitzfar in involved with the education of every dragon in the lair. His eldest son, Eun, is tasked with writing down the clan's history.
With his intelligence comes a rather eclectic sense of style, which often rubs off on other members of the clan.

SHADOWED...
"Where have you been all these years?" |
|
I shed my horns, my glasses, my previous life, when the shadow came. I was no longer who I had been and could no longer pretend to be him. I was not him. I was not him at all. People saw me as I had once been and it pained me everyday. They saw the old me. They could not see past the facade I held throughout the day. I was estranged to them, as if I was looking out from another's eyes. The days grew so heavy upon my shoulders, the mask slipped on occasion. I think, just maybe, people became afraid of me. Some saw my shadowed scales even though I tried to hide them. I gave my old life to another and left the place I knew so well. I couldn't live there any longer. I was a ghost in my own home. I was ghost to myself. |
Theme song
I Traveled far, so very far. From a land of light to a land of shadow. So many elements I went through to find the thing right beside me. As I flew, my veins grew darker. There was no hiding what I was any more. I shed the shimmering scales I had once so proudly owned, to be replaced with the richest, deepest purple imaginable. Wandering salespeople gave me what I needed to start a new life with the shadow. A hat to hide my increasingly strange eyes, a jacket of the toughest leather, a cloak to keep away the chill, treads to save my feet from failing and something that hid my pale wings from sight. I couldn't thank them enough for what they gave me, but I could not find anything to give them in return. Someday, I shall find them again and repay my dept to them. |
A land of shadow welcomed me. It embraced me in its arms like a loving parent. As soon as I was there I felt like I was home. Shifting darkness and looming trees, mushrooms that glowed brightly and crumbling walls. To some, it is a nightmare. To me, it was paradise. When I think back now I feel that my former self, my old, pure self, would have been horrified that such a place existed. All that darkness, all that shadow. It was nowhere near what the place of light had been like.

It wasn't long until the shadow in my blood struck out. Many things can annoy you here, and they certainly did me. Usually a snap or a bite can do the trick, but on this particular occasion it did not. They did not back down. They riled the beast within me. It struck them so harshly they didn't have a chance of survival. I do wish I had never seen what happened to them, what the shadow did to them, what I did to them. Alas, it is much too late now. I live my life with the knowledge and there is nothing I can do about it.
Shadowblood
Jach is cursed to carry the shadow in his blood. There are many ways of acquiring it, many of which are not known. From a simple scratch to a horrendous curse, the shadow has entered bloodstreams across the world. Many do not know they have it for many years until something small changes. Dragons and other animals tend to notice it quicker that humans do because of their eyes. the shadow originated in humans, so it got used to the human system. Therefore, whenever it infects another species it changes the eyes of the victim to those of a human. It can take up to five years for an animal to notice the shadow, a human up to fifteen. It can be incredibly difficult to tell if someone is shadowblood or not at the beginning. They can become nocturnal, somber, even downright cold. In later stages their veins, hair and eyes will become dark, then the shadow will become more apparent on the surface by taking the form or deep purple veins where veins don't usually show. It tends to spread from the spine and hands most. When it is more fully developed it can even manifest into ethereal ribbons. Because of it being used to the human body, it slowly changes the physique of animals. Most animals don't live long enough for this to happen, but for dragons it's a different story. This could well be where stories of winged humans came from, or even the tales of werebeasts. There is no known cure for shadownlood. It has barely been researched due to the people it infects not wanting to be tested. There has been one scientist who deliberately got herself infected and monitored herself over twenty years. She found that near the end of the research it became extremely hard to write about shadowblood and eventually her notes stopped. Her home was searched after a long silence from her but she was never found. Due to it taking so long to show itself, there could be many more people and creatures in the world that are infected without realising. You never know you, could be a shadowblood. |
