SpikeyMinion

One of the many trainers in the Lair, Spikey was the first one that new recruits usually saw. He showed them how tough it would be and guided them into their final decision to Exalted Service or Lair Service. He and Shineyminion watched over the young ones, and love them as much as if they were their own. Some day he knew he might be called to serve Windsinger himself, but right now, this was where he wanted to be, breathing the crisp Bay air, and watching their faces light up as they realized their training was well worth it. Now, back to finding the perfect gift for Shiney....

Called to Serve Windsinger

"Up! Down! Up! Down! Up! Down! U-"

"Spikey, can we take a break now?" asked the new trainee as the squad was out on the cliffside overlooking Windstar Bay having a good round of calisthenics.

"UP! DOWN! UP! DOWN!"

"Pleeeeaaaaase, Uncle Spikey?"

Spikey turned away from the trainees so they would not see him chuckling. Always there was someone who just didn't want to train. They had felt the call, but once involved in the training they needed to join Windsinger's forces, they tended to forget why they were here. Wait...did she just call me Uncle Spikey?

He whipped around and pinpointed the culprit. Yes indeed, that was little Kellers.

"Kellers, front and center!" he yelled.

The little skydancer hatchling stepped forward and proudly stood at attention in front of the others. Spike walked up to her and bent over her forcing her to til her head back to see him.

"Kellers, you are not on my list of recruits to train today. Does your mother know you are here?"

"I heard the call to service, Uncle Spikey! A loud voice yelled 'Windsinger Bless You, Get out there and get your training started!' so I hurried out here as fast as I could. Ummmm, mama was feeding little Mikey I think. She probably saw me and didn't say anything."

A small snicker escaped SpikeyMinion's snout, but he did his best to clamp his jaws together. "Did you actually see Windsinger himself? Was it his voice and his spirit that called to you?"

"It sounded more like Aunt Shiney, but it was loud!" The little hatchling told him.

"I am very sure that Windsinger does not sound like ShineyMinion. Please go find your mother and tell her that I say you can have a cookie, as part of your Windsinger Training."

"A cookie? Yay!" and with that, the young dragon was gone in an instant.

SpikeyMinion could only shake his head that the cookie had as much power over the hatchlings as Windsinger himself....
