Biography
A Tickled Tail
Windwave felt a tickle on his tail and carefully turned his snout to see behind him. Nothing showed on the packed dirt around the Lair's main entrance. Except for his tail. He turned back to watch the avenues to the main entrance as was his job these last few years. Mostly he greeted newcomers. Sometimes people came to him for help, and even brought--
His tail twitched again, and he whipped around this time. But again, nothing but the dirt. No sounds as when the hatchlings tried shenanigans at his expense. No tracks like when the familiars tried to sneak in and snatch rolls from the oven.
He turned to face the front again, paying particular attention to the nearby bushes.
The tickle came on his shoulder this time, but there was nothing on him, around him, nor anyone who snuck up on his position. His frustration rose. As a guard, he should be able to spot trespassers but he'd seen nothing!
Then he did see Priestess Windsong coming up the path, deep in conversation with Siltaria, the leader of the lair.
"Good afternoon, Siltaria, Windsong. Could I have a moment of your time?" He could not keep the concern from his voice and face.
"Whatever is wrong, Windwave?" Siltaria stopped at the entrance and looked around. "Has something happened while we were away?"
"My tail is being tickled. I am going out of my mind! There is no one here!"
"I can see you are flustered and concerned. Perhaps some time off to rest on this beautiful day?" Priestess Windsong offered the suggestion to Siltaria.
"I think we can arrange that!" Siltaria called for the Captain, and soon another was stationed at the door and the two ladies walked the upset guard down to the shoreline for a nice picnic to calm him down. Others were already there and the food laid out.
They ate and laughed at the hatchlings, found comfy napping places around the minstrel of the lair as he sang and played for them.
Just as Windwave was about to fall asleep, his nose was tickled! He jumped up and twirled around trying to find the culprit.
The Priestess came over and calmed him down. "WIndwave, when was the last time you took an afternoon off?"
"Ummm, 2 turns ago. What does that have to do with this?"
"I believe WIndsinger himself is trying to tell you that you should nose better from now on that everyone needs a break from their duties, even you."
Windwave collapsed onto the nice warm sand. "He could just say something!"
"What's the fun in that?" She laughed and settled back down herself.
The breeze swirled around them and he swore he heard laughter floating along that breeze...
