Skaldi never had a place to call home as she grew up. As a young hatchling, Skaldi learned that the dragons who cared for her weren't her family. She was an egg that they came across in a deserted clan. Before she could come to terms with this news, her clan was wiped out by what she later found out to be the Shade. Skaldi barely made it out herself; however, the dragon she considered a mom sacrificed herself for her. After that, Skaldi traveled from clan to clan, only staying long enough to strengthen up and steal food from the generous clans' stores.

During one of Skaldi's runs, she got caught by a tundra named Monet. Rather than ratting her out to the rest of his clan, he joined her and gathered delicious fruits that he was forbidden from eating. The two quickly became friends and Skaldi found herself staying with the clan longer than she ever had with other clans. However, the clan's leader caught Skaldi stealing and banished her from their nook in the Obscured Crescent. She didn't fly for long before she heard a loud crash. Circling back, she found Monet in a a thorny bush. He wanted to go on an adventure with Skaldi and live freely, just like her.

The two didn't go any adventures together. They struggled to survive as they made their way out of the Forum of Obscured Crescent. Eventually, they found a spot in the Foxfire Bramble that felt right. Neither needed to say a word; this place was going to be their home. The two quickly made beds for themselves and Monet caught insects for Skaldi while Skaldi scavenged plants for Monet. Before they knew it, a friendly spiral crossed their path and Caladorn became the third dragon in their clan. However, the trio weren't alone long when Skaldi ran into a young hatchling. Kallias could barely spread his wings let alone defend himself, so Skaldi brought him back to join their little family.
