Biography
Jean, the Shambler
Clan Trainer
Clan Trainer
|
Nobody knows where she came from. She showed up one evening. Silent, but with a clear message: do not cross her. She was followed by her mate; a Guardian like her. Twice her mass, and lacking only in the fear that the female commanded from the clan. Lady Marre, a Pearlcatcher slow to grant respect, dared not test any boundaries. This beast wasn't quite welcomed into the clan; she invited herself in. Despite this, the clan grew to like her. Still, they had questions, the most pressing being "are those Guardian bones you're wearing?" The clan did know the answer, though. Many dragons had died during pilgrimages to the Wyrmwound and bones of all species littered the Scarred Wasteland. They just wanted to hear it from her: was her collection of bones from things that were already dead, or was she more devious than they thought? She avoided the question and the harsh glare warned them that this was a line not to be crossed. Who she killed - and however many dragons she killed - was none of their business. And Alduin, more henchman than mate, ushered these interrogators away with a threat of force. The clan came to call her the Shambler for her faltering gait. An old injury for sure. She caught wind of the nickname, but rather than lashing out, she claimed the name as her own. The clan's sheriff, Foster, was able to get some information from Alduin: the Shambler's name was Jean. She was once a warrior. And those bones - they were scavenged from dragons that did not survive their journey through the Scarred Wasteland. They were a symbol of her survival; her ability to adapt to the Plaguebringer's domain. Foster knew there was something Alduin wasn't telling him about the bones, but even the sheriff preferred not to dig too deep. Jean was discovered to have greater physical strength than the other dragons in the clan. Lady Marre saw an opportunity. A way for the Shambler to earn her keep: train recruits for the clan and send them to serve in the Plaguebringer's army. In return, Jean received a large sum of treasure for each dragon trained and was exempt from limits on food rations. She ate her fill and left the scraps for the others. A monster clad in the bones of the weak. An undefeated warrior. A nightmare. |
"Don't ask stupid questions, kid. That's the kind of behavior that gets you killed. Your goal is to survive. If you interrogate me again, you will not reach that goal."
