Cumulus
He floated as if he were made of the breeze. Up in the sky, he felt the warm caress of the wind’s careful fingers combing through his wings and through his silks. Cumulus would spend every waking moment among the sky. Against the fluttering petals and the sweet scent of pollen, outstretched fingertips ghosting along the currents wavering beside him.
He viewed the wind as a blessing, a luxury beyond any currency’s purchase, inviting himself to waltz among the birds, twisting and tangling among them, higher and falling lower, drifting as if atop water. The breeze in the summer was his favourite. The blessed floral air and the whistles of birds. But he loved the winter snow, and how the flakes clung to his wings, donning them like precious crystals.
To his clan, he was merely rumour. Speculation.
It was then he saw what he had been waiting for.
And so, he was Cumulus.

~above the clouds~
There was a rush of air, a cold scrape of icy wind against a dragon's wings. Rain had plagued the cliffs for days. Storm clouds in varying shades of gloom fringed the mountaintops, a deluge of water pouring from the skies and turning the world to mist. The liquid carved gashes down the sides of the cliffs, waterfalls forming in the blink of an eye. No one left the tunnels to hunt. Leaving the mountain during a storm was dangerous. Lightning could strike at any moment, and a powerful gust of wind could send even the strongest flyer crashing into the unforgiving stone cliffs. But now the clouds had vanished and the skies were clear again. The air smelled of fresh pine trees and muddy, overflowing lakes. Birdcalls echoed off the sides of the mountains. Dragons joyously leaped off the highest cliffs, snapping their wings open and skimming across the top of raging mountain rivers. There had never been a more perfect day for flying. |

Ahh~~ the clouds |
The horizon. An endless ebullition of love welling up within his heart as he watched the winds twist and the colours catch upon the gusts. His body floated weightless above the water of the sea, letting himself plummet, feeling the harshest pull of wind against his body, he waited until there was nothing but his reflection in the water to pull himself up, the ends of his wings skimming the water and sending the droplets airborne into his own wind. He created new gusts. He danced and he spiralled and he brushed upon clouds and sat among them as if an angel of the very skies. He was blessed by the wind, blessed by flight. And he was a child of the air. As if the very clouds had created him, held his infant body and sent him to live among them. |
