There are few dragons who have ever left their home clan to serve one of the gods only to return later. Layel is one of these few. While he was one of the founders of the Nomads, he later felt a greater calling to the Icewarden than to that of clan life and left to serve under him. It wasn't until years later that he would have thoughts of returning to see if the tiny clan he had known still persisted and regretted abandoning his responsibilities as a founder. The request to retire from service to a god was not made lightly, it simply wasn't done.

There were stipulations for his retirement from service of course, though, the oddest of which was likely the one to take up care of a few cats. Layel took this task to heart, bringing home with him five of the small creatures that he had come to know well during his stay with the Icewarden. He takes his small charges seriously and keeps them with him at all times, though it helps that they impossibly cute and irresistibly cuddly!
