“Let the rhythm take you home.” Both of Reshikh’s parents were wanderers, traveling alongside a merchant caravan when they met. Born on the road, and raised amidst the hustle and bustle of merchants busily buying and selling, he found himself among all kinds - hardworking craftspeople, who bent over their work long into the nights; fast-talking bargain sellers, who accumulated goods just as fast as they pawned them off, constantly cajoling and haggling; the stern but kindly beast-handlers and their powerful, intimidating charges. He could appreciate all of their work, but lived instead for the group’s recreation: at night, when the caravan would circle up and bring out instruments, and the people would dance. All of these wayward people, from every corner of Sornieth - they were never closer together than when they sang and danced, learning each other’s music and matching their steps. He danced with all of them when he was young - clumsy, yes, but with an innate sense for the beat and the rhythm. His heart pounded with the drums, always in perfect counterpoint: the steady pulse that meant joy and vitality and life. It was the drums that he loved, how they could send your pulse racing or your feet to a pounding, deliberate beat, and so he scrounged and saved and haggled his way to his own and practiced until his palms were smarting and red. He learned every song he could: the steady, stepping rhythms from Dragonhome, the light tripping beats from the Windswept Plateau, the coy, echoing call and answer from the Tangled Wood. Though people left the caravan, just as he did in time, he kept part of them with them: the rhythms that their hearts beat with, and the memory of their dance. ♥ TAURIK (a friend) Reshikh provides the accompaniment for Taurik's dance performances, primarily on his small set of drums. The two are well-matched while performing, responding to each other's cues and the audience's to suit the mood. ♫ THROUGH HEAVEN'S EYES No life can escape being blown about by the winds of change and chance / And though you never know all the steps, you must learn to join the dance...
