“I'll show you what I've learned... even if it isn't much yet.” Hopelessly fascinated by the arts merchants showed off each time they passed through his small village, Sidzhan - then Tomnus - was even more enthralled by the perfume maker than any other. He wondered over the scents, so delicate yet so powerful - conjuring up feelings and images of long-forgotten memories or distant places he'd only read of in books. He wanted desperately to visit them, to be as well-traveled and well-mannered as that merchant - but each year the merchants would pick up and leave again, Tomnus remaining in his small village that felt ever smaller. Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer. As the merchants prepared to pack up once again, Tomnus sought the perfume maker he so admired. "Your craft is beautiful, and I would work harder than you would believe if I could create something half as lovely. Please, take me on as your apprentice." The perfume maker cocked his head and considered him. "I won't accept an apprentice who only aims to go halfway. Promise to give me your all or don't promise at all." It was without any hesitation that Tomnus said "I promise." ★ SADZHIK (his mentor) He teaches Sidzhan everything he knows about the practicalities of his craft, though he leaves a considerable amount of the art for his student to discover on his own. ♥ LOKIIN (his boyfriend) Sidzhan found himself enchanted with Lokiin's poised manners and sweet beauty when they met, and wishes he could impress him just as much someday. ✒ A KISS ON THE PALM Sidzhan attends his first masquerade party and, despite his pessimistic assumptions, manages to find someone to talk to.
