Several seasons after Dust Bleak was settled in a curiously abandoned lightning farm perched on the rim of the Carrion Canyon, Kadre appeared. She did not announce her arrival nor cautiously approach the clan, but rather walked right in as if she had lived there her whole life. She made her way to the Dusty Den, the local tavern, and ordered a drink from a very alarmed Dopson. Her voice was low, gravelly and unnatural sounding, as if a feral creature had manipulated its snarls into words. Despite her unsettling appearance and mannerisms, she seemed to be amiable. The uneasy clan didn’t know what to do with their new arrival, but it became immediately obvious she knew the land in the surrounding area better than anyone, and had clearly been living here for a much longer time than them.

At first the clan was quite wary of her presence, but she paid it no mind. As time went on and the whole of Dust Bleak began to get to know Kadre better, and it became even more obvious that there was something strange about her. Her appearance was not the only thing that lead many to question her bloodline and roots. Not that the clan was terribly picky about any of that, but the fact that they couldn’t quite be sure she was a dragon did make some members of the clan uneasy at first. Kadre is a difficult individual to read, her expressions and accent make it hard for many to understand her intentions or mood. All they knew is that she must not want to hurt the clan, if anything she wanted to help.

She would vanish for a week or two at a time into the depth of the Carrion Canyon and would often resurface with terrified, bewildered, or otherwise distraught travelers. Dust Bleak dragons knew better than to venture too far into the canyon, but every season wayward dragons would be lost forever in the shadows of those rock walls. The dragons brought up to Dust Bleak were very lucky dragons indeed. Kadre continued to bring dragons to safety, and in turn business to the small clan. Soon an idea was struck, and the clan asked Kadre to be their official canyon guide. She was delighted to put her skills to work, and soon the clan had a lucrative smuggling business. If you don’t have a guide through the Canyon, you simply won’t make it. And almost no one had a guide.

Dust Bleak became quite comfortable with Kadre, and soon she started bringing other creatures from the canyon up to meet her dragon friends. At first it was startling, but the clan was always pleased to have a friend of Kadre join their ranks. It was not long after that a number of canyon dwellers had comfortably moved in with the clan.
