As one may expect, Niraj is the scholarly sort. He grew up in the Sunbeam Ruins among others who shared his love of learning, using the written word to overcome the language barrier typical of Coatls as he became quite proficient in transcribing his thoughts. In time he learned how to use common draconic, though he's still reluctant to speak aloud due to his heavy accent. Some dragons would call him shy because of his quiet demeanor, but when anyone brings up the subject of his research, Niraj turns into an endless stream of not-always-understandable words.

His enthusiasm endears him to even the most surly of dragons. Despite that, most would be surprised to know that their resident grouch of a recordkeeper, Buru, is actually loving mate to 'Raj. The two can often be found in the scroll room working in serene silence when not out fulfilling their respective duties for the clan. Thankfully, Niraj isn't kept too busy by Zarim's assignments, and Buru doesn't mind acting as cushion when his mate decides to work on his research at home.

A thirst for knowledge led Niraj to the Refuge. News of miracles travels quickly and dragons being cured of fatal ailments was nothing short of miraculous. Since he lacked family in the Sunbeam Ruins, deciding to investigate the rumors was a simple affair for the Coatl, and he hurriedly gathered his scrolls and supplies for the journey into the infected lands. The source of the tales was easy to find. Every dragon within a thousand miles of the Plaguelands knew the name Zarim, and Niraj had no trouble finding someone to guide him to her territory.
