Zarim
Healer | Blood Mage | Leader

"There is no progress without risk, and no growth without sacrifice."

As far as healers go, you could probably find one more friendly than Zarim, but you'll never find one more skilled. Not much is known about how the Fae works her magic, but it's a rare day when she loses a patient. Neither disease nor wound hold much power in her clan, and many patients who visit for aid bring back rumors about the mysterious Zarim and her miraculous cures. Some say she's actually a higher being, while others suggest sacrifices to something a bit less benevolent, but no one quite knows for sure.

In the early years of her life, Zarim acted as apprentice to her birthclan's healer. However, unlike her, more often than not he refused to treat dragons without Plague blood. He told her the blood of Plague dragons was the strongest in all of Sornieth, and that those without it rarely survived creations bestowed upon them by the Plaguebringer. He claimed the resources used on them would be better spent elsewhere.

Despite Zarim's adamant disagreement, the healer did give her an idea. If Plague blood was really as strong as he claimed, could it be used to help those without it?

She began her experimentation quietly, digging through libraries to figure out just how to go about using the typically fatal substance to heal instead of harm. It tooks seasons of study to perfect the technique of purification, then further work to distill the results into an effective treatment, but she prevailed.

She took her experimental potion to a neighboring clan where she'd heard of a dragon suffering from an infection of the lungs. Zarim had suffered the same, though only briefly before she made a full recovery, and she'd discovered early on in her research that the blood could only treat contagions it had already encountered. This was as good a chance she would have of success. She could only hope this dragon suffered from the same strand of virus.

A week under her care was all it took for the patient to make a full recovery. Thrilled by the success, she hurried back to her clan and quickly shared her findings with the healer, eager to hear his praise and start working on more cures.

"Do you know how reckless that was!? You could have killed that dragon!"

All Zarim's frills dropped, a heavy mix of emotions bubbling within her chest. The healer forbid his apprentice from continuing her research, but she was already retreating to her living space, gathering her notebooks and blood samples. She knew she was young, but she would not sit back and be treated like her ideas were inferior when all she wanted to do was help. Their healer wasn't even willing to try, so why should she listen to him while she was on the cusp of a breakthrough in medical care? The clan could keep him and his unchanging ways, but Zarim was going to help dragons even if that meant leaving her colony behind.
