Wisteria remembers very little before she first saw Ametrine. It was a cold day and she had wandered a bit, but she was too weak to make it very far. She felt a shiver shake the forest and she realized with a start that it was footsteps that shook the world around her, not an earthquake like she first thought. She tried to stand but her legs gave out beneath her- all she could do was wait in silent terror as the beast drew nearer to her. Each step was heavier than the last - she felt as if the ground beneath her was about to crumble away. Suddenly, he appeared, as massive as a god in her eyes and with wings as vast and starry as the night sky.

He drew closer and his nostrils flared suddenly, his expression becoming suddenly serious. His massive head dropped down and swung back and forth as he walked, scanning the ground with fierce intensity. The leaves that scattered with each step he made were larger than she was. Just as he was about to pass right over her he froze, a sharp inhale accompanying his look of utter disbelief. Before she even knew what was happening the massive dragon had gently grabbed her off the forest floor, placing her on the flat of his palm. His eyes alone were almost as large as she was, and his warm breath washed over her like wind as he attempted to check her over for injuries, murmuring something in distressed undertones.

Wisteria was terrified, unsure of what he planned on doing with her. Her crests first flared in defiance and then fell flat with terror as she shrank back. The larger dragon cooed at her, his eyes glimmering with sadness at the state of her. "It's okay." He spoke, his voice a thunderous rumble. "I won't hurt you." He gently tucked her into a fold of his cloak, wiping at his eyes before turning and bounding away. Rather than walking he practically flew over the ground, leaping along the path like a tiger chasing its prey.

Stiff with fear, she refused to move but slowly began to realize that he wasn't about to eat her. She tentatively relaxed, though she still kept an ear out just in case he changed his mind. She was so tired that the motion of him running began to lull her to sleep, and despite her best intentions she drifted off, nestled into the fabric of his cloak as the wind blew past her.

When she awoke, she was curled in a ball in the midst of a tangle of raggedy shadowed fabric. A hat much larger than she was sat beside her, looming like a mountain in her sight. She could hear a deep humming noise and the sound of something massive moving about, and for a moment she froze before she remembered the circumstances leading up to this moment. With cautious eyes, she peered over the edge of her nest.

EXAMPLE OF ITEM

Ametrine was rapidly pacing back and forth, grabbing things from random shelves and bringing them all to his workbench. As Wisteria watched he swooped past her, scooping up a roll of fabric as she instinctively ducked beneath his shadow. She realized as she watched him that he was making something very small - a tiny travelling cloak, identical to his but about a thousand sizes smaller. He hummed to himself as he worked, and Wisteria watched with fascination, slowly growing more comfortable as she did so. He may have been large, but she slowly came to realize that he wasn't dangerous.

As time passed, she grew, if only slightly. Ametrine became much more mindful of where he was stepping, and she became much better at staying up on the workbench or on his bookshelf, where he could always see her. The dragon who had thought he knew almost everything found himself quite flustered when it came to raising another dragon, and there were many times he came home with the wrong sort of food, so used to being able to digest everything as an imperial.

He remodelled one of the shelves on his bookshelf into a miniature room, complete with windows and a door. However, she rarely spent time in it, much preferring to nap while curled around one of his antlers or on his bed when he went to sleep despite his terror of accidentally squishing her. She doesn't go outside much, and when she does, she finds herself quickly returning back to the safety of her father's den. She rarely speaks, and when she does, it's only to Jade or Ametrine, who both bring her food or spend time with her when she's lonely.

She never really got over her nervousness of the outdoors, but she now can bear to go on walks with Ametrine when he patrols the border of their territory or heads out to visit the edge of shadow. Most dragons find them to be an odd pair, but Ametrine couldn't be more proud of her and the progress she's made when it comes to facing her fears. Despite her size, she often helps him at his workbench, and he's proud to have such a willing apprentice and delighted to have a daughter.
