Hook's Notes: Garret is one of the original members of the clan, and thus has a lot of say in the way it's run. He's had a lot of children with his mate Iosael, and most of them have made the journey to the Observatory to become scholars and warriors. But mostly scholars. One of his children, Natasha, actually still lives here. Garret is a pretty low key, peaceful character, and so was his mate; traits that tended to carry on to their children - so we're not sure where Natasha got her warrior streak. Not to say that she isn't also good natured. Garret is Chief Messenger and also Sansa's main source of transportation, since he's one of the few dragons who consents to carrying her around. Not that she has many places to go - he also sometimes goes with her as an escort when she's taking walks through the woods or along the beach, for protection. If this seems like odd, unusually servant-hearted character for a Pearl Catcher, well, it's because he isn't snooty like a lot of his kind; that aspect of him always catches any new dragons to the clan (and especially Imperials) off guard in the best of ways. He'd rather have a good laugh with you than judge you, and he'd rather share a good meal with you than waste time being lofty. |

He's the paternal voice in the leadership; perhaps his great tending towards kindness can be linked back to his origin in Nature. Histan values his opinion even if he doesn't always agree with it, and often comes back from a couple days of brooding to admit that Garret is right. Garret isn't actually a member of the leadership, even though he gets invited to a lot of the meetings. Lycra calls him "The angel's voice in Histan's head" and there are days when she doesn't know how they would get by without him. "But what about his mate?" you may be wondering. "Didn't you say he had a mate?" Yes, I did. Garret carries her with him wherever he goes. I guess he used to smile more than he does now - or at least, his smiles used to be less sad. |

Iosael was a nurse in the clan, and thus was the most exposed out of everyone to the plague when it hit. She was also a teacher at the Grade school, and a loving mother. She was a caretaker in every sense of the word, and she never hesitated to care for the dying, even when she knew it might cost her own life. Garret understood the risk she was taking as well, but didn't ever try to argue that she shouldn't be doing it. Who else was going to do it, if she didn't? Who better for the job? Losing her didn't break him, but it blinded him for awhile. He became numb, trying to find feeling and comfort in places that he probably shouldn't have. Eventually, Histan broke his friend's spiral of emotional self destruction and took him on a retreat in the forests of his homeland. They came back after a month, refreshed and restored. Garret will always grieve the loss of Iosael, but it's no longer the only thing he can see. His children still write to him often, and even sometimes come for a visit, or else he goes to visit them. He has grandchildren and great grandchildren by now, and he's always going on about them in a proud, awe filled way that's simply adorable. He still loves his jokes and shares his laughs - when I say there is a heaviness to him, I don't mean that he's always sad. I just mean that when you look at him, you can see a depth behind his eyes. He knows the preciousness of life. I think I can relate to him in that. |
