Darcy

Hook's Notes:
Darcy is a founding member of this clan, and is like everyone's strange aunt. She's from Plague and wears the garb to match, but she'd been exploring Arcane for awhile even before she found Histan and Lycra, and she was a teenager then. From what I've understood, she's always been independent, even from childhood, has always done as she pleases and feels is right, over what anyone else thinks is right or proper, and really didn't spend much of her life in her birthplace.

Darcy is never one to beat around the bush or soften the edge of her sword. It's not that she's hostile, she's just blunt to a fault, and you have to get used to it and realize that she (usually) doesn't mean to offend you. She's also very determined to be an old maid for all of her life. Well, maybe determined isn't the word for it - she's just completely uninterested in the alternative. She's had the same familiar this whole time, and though some dragons like to gather a whole mangerie, she's happy with just her one Clouddancer. You could say she's set in her ways - but she's not really. She's young at heart and she loves to interact with travelers, gathers all the gossip from letters sent from other places, makes sure anyone new who moves in feels welcome (by holding her tongue about their faults for at least a month...), and is always down to babysit if there's a set of parents feeling overwhelmed.

She and Histan run the battle team: they trained Zona, and used to train all the other trainees until Aiedail took over that task. She's a miner mage, infusing her battle style with Plague-Arcane hybrid magic. She's also a part of the leadership team and Histan and Lycra are her best friends. Whenever someone new joins the clan, they inevitably whisper to someone at some point, "Are darcy and Histan a pair?" because if you haven't been around, it's easy to think so, with how familiar they are with each other and how much time they spend together, but there's never been anything romantic between them. "Never?" I quizzed Scarlet when I first got here, fooled like the rest. "Never," she said emphatically. She would know. Lycra is her mom and the rest are practically her family too. (She then told me all Histan's cringe worthy dating stories, which I'm not sure he would appreciate her sharing...)

Darcy is someone who just... feels like a safe place, you know? She's just one of those dragons. At least that's how I feel. Even though she'll say whatever is in her head and that might not always be pleasant, she's also not one to repeat herself, so she's only told me once that I should get out of my shell more, which is much less often than a lot of other dragons seem to require telling me, so she gets points for that. She sees it as her duty to point things out, and then she leaves dragons to do something about it or not, a kind of, "you've been warned and now it's up to you," kind of deal. So when [whatever event brings the return of the plague] and she continued to bring it up, Histan and Lycra took her seriously. If Darcy says it twice, she's seriously upset. If she says it three times, she's in a high state of concern and alarm. Unfortunately, it was already too late.

The one thing Darcy has never said though, is "I told you so." Not about that one. That hurt is too big to try to own.

To go back to a lighter note, Darcy is huge fan of earthy, edgy, music. She and Mylo have a massive record collection between them, and he, Sochi and Van are always bringing her back new music. Four brought her back a bagpipe record once, and though it's like nothing else she owns, she loves it a lot and plays it over and over. He also brought her a sugar pop album and one that's just a bunch of monk pearcatches humming. She wasn't very impressed with those ones; she gave the sugar pop to Kaflanii and the humming monks to Kol for meditation, who didn't enjoy it either and who passed it on to Hylis, who actually does use it for meditation, much to the chagrin of anyone near enough to hear it. After that I think Four got told to not bring back any more albums. He's a little tone def, so even if he did listen to it beforehand (which I doubt he did) he probably couldn't tell just how bad it is.

Honestly I could probably write an entire book about Darcy - she could probably write a really cool memoir actually. Maybe I should mention the idea to her... not sure what she'd think about that. I'm sure I'll know soon.
