Biography

Starbound
"The past can never be forgotten, or forgiven."
-Starbound

Who, who are you really?
Starbound has tasked herself with the duty of protecting the clan's nesting grounds. She is serious and no-nonsense when it comes to this duty, rarely leaving her post. A solemn and dedicated worker, she guards the nesting grounds 24/7, along with her small army of well-trained Shattered Serpents, which patrol the surrounding area as she protects the center.

Starbound does need to socialize, however, just as any other dragon needs to from time to time, and is most often seen joining breakfast to chat casually over a cup of coffee with Amethyst, or listen to Godiva describe the latest woes the many challenges of maintaining the Hanging Gardens; but besides these occasional social endeavors, she spends most time alone, caring for both the health and the safety of each nest, and the eggs that reside in them.

Besides her guarding duties though, Starbound is known to be kind, but cautious, around children, and will sometimes whistle show tunes while tending to nests.

And where, where are you going?
Starbound came to the Aikka clan when she was kicked out of her previous clan for not doing her duties, cited as being a 'waste of food sources.' Despite the scathing reviews from her previous clans, Champagne allowed her in their clan, seeing potential in her where others could not.

As carefree and whimsical as the wind itself, Starbound had no intentions of ever settling down with anyone or any task. When it came to jobs, she never could stick to one for very long, boring of it in a few weeks and going back to casually flirting with strangers. Almost every clutch she's had was laid with a different male, about as many as lairs she'd called home at some point or another.

During a night out on the town, Starbound brought home another dragon to nest with--another one of her fancies, another one-off stand. Or so she had thought; in the night, as the clan had slept, her would-be suitor snuck off as she slept, and destroyed the clan's nests--a total 23 eggs, and 2 guards dragons, murdered in the night.

The attack was devastating, and Starbound always blamed herself for it, and that blame changed her: she left behind her jewels and silks, and put on a set of armor; she gave up sex and love, vowing to become celibate to make up for her mistake; and she left behind a life of carelessness and whimsy, to take on the mantle of nest guardian.

She struggles, to this day, with feelings of overwhelming guilt and shame, wondering what could have been, never forgetting, or forgiving, her past.

"Starbound, i understand that your past is a hard one to cope with. If you could have saved them, how far would you have gone? To what lengths would have you went if only you could have prevented their deaths?"

Starbound’s fingers hesitate for a moment as you ask the question, the leaves of the egg she was tending resting between her fingers.

She’s quiet, her face contemplative. Her fingers move around the stem of the egg’s leaves again, but without purpose now. More like she’s just trying to find something to do with her hands while she thinks. “The me now? Anything. Everything.” She carefully lifts up a single leaf, examining it. The very outer edge is yellowing ever so slightly. “There was a long time where I could not even look at these eggs, without seeing… without seeing their faces. The parents' faces.” She drops the leaf, drawing her paws inward, pressed together against her chest. She doesn’t make eye contact with you.

“Without seeing… What was left of them.”

She is clearly struggling with talking about this, as she wrings her hands together, her wings pressing tighter against her body, as if to hug herself. Her shoulders are slumped. Her body language just screams the words guilt, defeat.

She sighs, deeply, troubled. “The me then?”

Her paws move down to sit in her lap, her thumbs rubbing over each other. “She would have just run away.” She barks a cold, harsh laugh, that does not match the rest of her expression. “I almost did. Would have, if the shock had not shaken me so hard that I could not move at all.” She unclasps her hands, instead gripping her knees. She visibly braces herself, sighs, and looks at you, not quite seeing you. “She was a coward. But she would have laughed at you if you told her that.”

Starbound reaches for the egg stems again, continuing her work. “She was lying to herself.”

Did you ever find out why your "partner" did what he did?

"I assume you mean the dragon who destroyed our nests." You follow her as she walks between the nests, looking for anything out of place. "We did find out. We...weren't their only targets."

She stops to turn to you. "It was a coordinated attack. Several plague dragons came to the Veridian Labyrinth to destroy our progeny. To weaken us. To cripple our morale." She looks out towards the den's entrance, a distant look in her eyes. "Some of them were sneak attacks from outside forces, but I... I let them right in. I let them through our barriers, introduced them to my clan mates, showed them where the nests were..."

She shakes her head. "I couldn't have been any more naïve. Champagne warned me against it, tried to tell me he was bad news. But I was stubborn. I would not listen." She nods. "I paid the price for my naivete."
