Biography

Role: None

Scratch, the clan’s doctor, discovered an unhatched light egg while scavenging. It had a dead grey wolf curled around it, a large gash across its throat. For some local clans, wolves were considered bad luck. They usually ate the same prey as meat-eating dragons, so were often exterminated. However, it was also believed by superstitious dragons that wolves had magic powers, and offerings were made to wolves that were killed, for them to use in the afterlife.

It was likely that this wolf was killed by a nearby clan, who must have left one of their eggs as an offering to avoid bad luck. As she doesn’t believe in magic, Scratch took the egg for our clan to sell, and the dead wolf for it’s meat and pelt. Dumping the body in the clan’s stores to be cleaned and preserved later, she settled down for a rest. She fell asleep with the egg in her grasp, intending to take it to the Auction House later. However, when she woke up, there was a little black-and-white Coatl on her lap.

Scratch knew she should tell the other clan members, then take the hatchling to be sold. A triple-gened, XYY Coatl was sure to bring in a lot of treasure. But... She didn’t want to. Scratch wasn’t usually the most affectionate of dragons, but felt an unexplainable adoration for the tiny hatchling on her lap. She’d just hold onto the Coatl for a little while, she wouldn’t even name her! Well... Maybe a temporary name. Sirius. Just so she wasn’t called “Unnamed”.

Scratch hid Sirius for the first 5 days of her life, figuring that she’d be harder to sell once she was out of hatchlinghood, and she’d become a permanent clan member. However, she had a few strange behaviours. She wasn’t picking up language as fast as other dragons, mostly making growling noises, with the occasional weak howl. It was also difficult to get her to eat. She hated the seafood diet that would keep her healthy, and kept trying to eat meat, which made the fish-eater very sick.

Once Sirius began to speak properly, she spoke of dreams and visions from a ‘past life’. Scratch thought little of it, assuming they were just the ramblings of a hatchling, until Sirius recalled a horrific fight with a Light-Clan dragon, and being slashed across the throat. She spoke of her ‘old body’, with paws, thick fur and not a scale in sight. At last, she remembered a dragon placing an egg by her side as she died.

Unnerved, Scratch brought Sirius to the stores of the clan, where she instantly pointed out the dead wolf. It had the same white belly and faded grey fur, and she insisted that it was her. She was saddened, and began howling pitifully, crying about how she wanted to be herself again. Moved, Scratch swore to help her as much as she could.

She skinned the dead wolf, fashioning a cape from the pelt. She presented it to the young dragon, who quickly and gratefully put it on. Chlorophyll also agreed to help, after the Coatl was introduced to the Clan (and Scratch was berated for hiding her), and has started work on reproducing his accidental fur-growth spell. Sirius was less grateful for his offer.

As she was killed by a dragon, Sirius is very hostile towards all dragonkind, except Scratch, whom she sees as a sort of motherly figure. This often confuses visiting dragons, whom she tends to growl at. While she has accepted that she is now, physically, a dragon, she doesn’t really consider herself one, and as such has not taken one as her mate. She is often found prowling with local wolf packs, howling at the moon and making herself sick by eating meat. Some dragons in the clan claim she’s a werewolf, and that they’re seen her transform when she goes to run with the wolf packs. But everyone knows that’s just a rumour... probably.
