Biography

Musca
Clan Administrator - King of Cups
675.png
The first to join, Musca is in many ways the co-founder of Driftwood Shore. Her tall grey shape is a symbol of order, of measured structure and survival against the day-to-day chaos naturally created when any mixed group of dragons live together. She is the first to formally greet dragons from other clans, and the first to apply administrative structures, such as The Driftwood Log, or records of clan bloodlines.

Musca is also a teacher. While Aucanor supervises the emotional growth of hatchlings, Musca plies them with basic knowledge. She tries to never let a hatchling leave the clan ignorant on how to read and write, and has educated most of the clan on the same.

While her general and spiritual knowledge of the world is excellent, she isn't really an academic or scholar and her accuracy on scientific queries tends to.. vary. She has great faith and devotion to the Tidelord, which often echoes in her teachings and words. She is not a fan of deep water, however, and prefers the warm dry den of a land-living dragon.

History: Musca showed up shrouded in mystery. She carries some past she doesn't wish to speak of, and only after long years of companionship has shared it with Aucanor alone. It is somewhat of a game among the clan members to speculate about Musca's origins, with many 'headcanons' passed around. What's clear is that she either doesn't feel the urge to seek a Charge, or has already found one somewhere.

Physical: Musca is an elegant if plain dragon, whose beauty comes mainly from her bearing. Though able to traverse at some depth, she dislikes swimming and tends to swim along the surface, like a seabird, to remain as dry as possible. Her flight is somewhat clumsy, but serves well enough to get from A to B. In battle Musca lacks spontaneity and daring, and only fights well in a large group or following a pre-established plan. Despite this she is an intensely powerful Water mage when battle-ready, and uses many kinds of defensive fields and charms to strengthen her partners' positions.
My Charge is myself, the self within. That was decided long ago.
599.png Familiar:
The mossy owl was an inhabitant of Musca's first cave, and was originally nothing but a disgruntled hissing leaf pile at the intruding dragon. Gradually however, their cohabitation led to acceptance and eventually fondness, as a familiar bond formed.
The owl and the dragon have now fully awakened their distant connection, and through Musca's skill with magic she is able to use her companion's luminous eyes to see elsewhere. Dragons up to mischief quickly learn that it pays to first check over your shoulder for an owlish silhouette..

Kin & Others
The great white clan founder is Musca's dearest friend, and she spends much of her free time by his side. They have shared a den since the very first scratchings of clan beginning, and she has had many a deep and enlightening discussion with him on the nature of things and the interpretations of dream and prophecy. While she respects him greatly, she does find herself thinking of him as a huge awkward child at times, one she must be responsible for. Musca finds Vaskip's methods of interaction exasperating, infuriating, and upsettingly entertaining. Her relationship with the warrior Ridgeback coalesced during the war, when they were forced to argue long hours of battle strategy. Now their bond is stronger than ever, and their bickering is a source of great amusement (or annoyance) among the clan. Musca must concede, however, that Vaskip's ideas often have true merit, and she usually finds herself building on them rather than naysaying them.

Offspring:
Musca has three children who still walk the mortal world, one of whom resides in the clan. Lerrimar and Tangaroa are nest brothers in separate clans, and were the very first eggs to hatch at Driftwood Shore. Musca is very aware of her children and thinks of them fondly, though wishes her clan-living daughter Kessr were not so estranged.
