Biography

4073714p.png 758.png
Ghostly words and a vacant, silvery stare are the things that most dragons associate with Yvelte. That, and her ceaseless companionship to the ill-natured, aggressive Sig. With him she used to form a powerful trio of warriors, before the third claw of their team was severed due to his own transgressions. Yvelte now spends more time than ever around her savage partner Sig, keeping him stable and trying to comprehend and process the betrayal that has affected them both.

Yvelte herself is hard to get to know closely. She speaks little and when she does, her voice is rasping and quiet. Even for a Tundra her memory is vague and transient, forgetting most names and relying almost entirely on scent recall for anything further back than a week or so. Most dragons do not have the patience for these long awkward silences and repeating topics of conversation, and Yvelte does not have much interest in social interaction herself, leading to her being an outsider to most of the clan's day-to-day happenings.

Her retiring, quiet nature, her forgetfulness, and her devotion to her partner could lead one to believe that Yvelte is a meek dragon of a gentle disposition, but under the fluff Yvelte is a dragon made of steel. Her skinny, wiry frame is a result of surviving great physical hardship at an early age, and under her soft words and accepting nature is an entirely unshakable iron will. This has been further honed by years of association with Sig, who is stubborn and irascible and needs to come up against such a wall first before he will listen to anyone.

History: Yvelte drifted the entire way from the Snowsquall Tundra as a pup, crossing the land through the scorching electrical desert of the Shifting Expanse in an experience that was physically and emotionally traumatic. It left her with a great appreciation for simple life-sustaining basics, a wiry, damaged frame, and a voice made hoarse by scarred throat and lips. As a pup she still remembered these events at least vaguely, but now they have blurred away into nothing but scents and emotions.

Physical: Yvelte carries two mutations, which further distance her from the rest of the clan and put her in the 'weird' category. The first are her lines: Unlike the normal Circuit patterning of dragons the lines flow underneath her skin, not across her fur. When viewed at the correct angle they appear to pulse, but unlike Sig's lines they do not glow. The other mutation is in her jagged horns, which split and crackled into strange shapes during her first Ice festival. They vaguely resemble a cross between her usual horns, Sig's antlers, and the pronged horns of her familiar.

Yvelte is a poor flier, typical for a Tundra, particularly clumsy at landing and takeoff. Her fighting style is as a mage; meditating and then freezing her opponents in a glittering cloud of freeze-burning frost or stunning them with neutral magic, ready for Sig to close in. She is also a powerful healer, though only within the weird space of the Coliseum. Yvelte cannot swim more than an ineffective dog paddle, but is exceptionally good at using Ice magic to float. Being in a body of water also makes her nervous, and it's something she avoids.
I've lost the ability to be within myself, I'm not sure I ever had it.
Instead I'll be within others. Within the flock. Within him.
1144.png Familiar:
Yvelte's familiar is extremely intolerant of anyone else and is easily startled, taking flight immediately. The frail stag usually only appears at dusk and dawn, to graze by Yvelte's side. Remarkably, it seems to not always be the same stag, and some claim to have seen Yvelte out in the dawn fog, surrounded by the ghostly shapes of many of these creatures.

Kin & Others

Sig:
Sig is essentially Yvelte's world. Many scent memories are anchored to the things he does: the scent of his armour recalls the last time they were in the coliseum, his blood the War, his horns the Carnevale and the Gala and so on. They are lovers and warriors together, a team and a duo. Yvelte cannot imagine a world without him and would not even think to do so.
Rennic's side-switching is a fact that is still being processed. She forgets, then someone- usually Sig- will remind her, bringing back feelings of betrayal and bewilderment like each time is the first. Unlike Sig, Yvelte feels that Rennic must have his reasons for what he did. She knows him too well to believe the things they say about him in the clan, that he just thirsts for blood and power.

Offspring:
Like her and her partner, many of Yvelte's unexalted children are deeply strange or troubled. Her children with Sig- Rannveig, Helena, and Hazard- all show signs of their father's instabilities, and Allspice and Kellinlii are both strange and vaguely sinister dragons with unusual elemental ties. Yvelte does not remember any of her children unless confronted with their smell. Her once clan-living daughter Ulaya died during the Swords War, and even her memory is absent until a chance scent crosses Yvelte's nose and loss fills her heart.
