Stalwart, serious, and grumpy- according to the hatchlings of the clan, this is the perfect recipe for the most boring dragon in the clan. Add in the fact that Qaus is an Earth Snapper, and, well... It’s no surprise that the hatchlings like to mess with him when he stands perfectly still in one place for a prolonged period of time. They’ll creep up to him, poking his snout and draping flowers over his earth colored scales when he doesn’t even blink.

Unbeknownst to the hatchlings, Qaus chooses to let them have their fun before he gets the last laugh. Once the hatchlings have been lulled into a false sense of security, Qaus will let out a great “BOO!” It always makes the hatchlings squeal and scramble for cover while Qaus lets out booming guffaws, and flowers fall off his head and wings. (And once the little ones recover from their shock, they’re rolling on the ground laughing as well.)

Qaus is the aging Earth ambassador for the clan. He has been doing the job side by side with the Earth Sprite he was given as his companion almost since he can ever remember- and even when he was a hatchling he was being groomed for the diplomat position.

Qaus is rather gruff, despite his occupation. (That isn’t to say he isn’t good at his job; in fact, he’s one of the best.) Qaus is a logical thinker, always anticipating the many outcomes of situations without letting his emotions cloud his mind.

A side effect of this is that Qaus isn’t a very romantic dragon. He has never had a mate (and when anyone asks, he’ll reply with “I’m mated to my job, my boy!”). Even so some dragons still whisper about him and Esmaralda. However, she is only a confidant and an advisor. Nothing more than a friend.

Qaus is also good friends with his fellow Earth ambassadors, Arcas and Bernardo. Often they can be found together, sharing little conversation and a sack of oysters. Others can’t comprehend how they enjoy themselves, sitting in silence like that. But after a long day’s work of negotiations, sometimes companionable silence is best.
