Biography

"Hey young blood,
doesn't it feel like our time is running out?
I'm gonna change you like a remix,
then I'll raise you
like a phoenix."

~~~
"There is enough fire inside you
to put all of Hell to shame,
but you are pretending to be water
for someone who is too afraid to handle
the dragons in your belly.
Stop crushing the thing that makes you.
Embrace the flames.
Be whole again for yourself
and no one else."
~~~

"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."

~~~
"Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn."
~~~

"I lie here lifeless
in this cocoon,
shedding my skin 'cause
I'm ready to.
I wanna break out,
I found a way out.
I don't believe that it's gotta be this way!
The worst is the waiting,
in this womb I'm suffocating.

Feel your presence filling up my lungs with oxygen,
I take you in,
I've died...

Rebirthing now!
I wanna live for love, wanna live for you and me.
Breathe for the first time now,
I come alive somehow.
Rebirthing now,
I wanna live my life, wanna give you everything!
Breathe for the first time now,
I come alive somehow."

~~~
"Being made of stardust, you are much like a star. You shine with light, give warmth, and burn with inner fire. You don't need outside energy. You are energy."
~~~

"I am not a Sunday morning inside four walls with clean blood and organized drawers. I am the hurricane setting fire to the forests at night when no one else is alive; or awake, however you choose to see it. And I live in my own flames, sometimes burning too bright and too wild to make things last, or handle myself or anyone else. And so I run. Run, run, run, far and wide until my bones ache and lungs split and it feels good.
Hear that people? It feels good because I am the ruler of my own body.”

AEGREIAN
EmBSKg7.png
Assistant Engineer + Phoenix + Charismatic
"I survived because the fire within me burned brighter than the fire around me."

Aegreian wasn't much. Just a low level grunt responsible for mind-numbing work that felt meaningless no matter how many times he was told that his job was essential to the process and that nothing could be done without him. For years, he believed it and was completely happy to spend his days in front of a complex machine typing in the same code again and again because it was an important job that no one else could do. No one knew that code like he did.

A technology exposition that was held by a neighboring clan during his week off for the Thundercrack Carnivale made him realize just how ridiculous his blind faith was. Other clans had incredible displays filled with new innovations and faster, better designs to make work easier, safer, and more efficient! while he was stuck at a clunky old computer typing in the same command like clockwork simply because he'd been told to do so. None of his colleagues knew the real reason behind their simple jobs either, but he was desperate to change that. Aegreian just knew if his clan actually utilized the full potential and intelligence of its members, they wouldn't be left in the dust by clans boasting immortality through cyborg technology and promising flight to Snappers.

Unfortunately, as passionate and charismatic as he is, Aegreian lacks the skill to back up his impressive and moving speeches. He, an uneducated wage slave, was attempting to lead an intellectual uprising of intelligent but equally uneducated wage slaves. His little uprising was more of a nuisance at worst to his superiors, who, in their concern to meet their quota, didn't realize the ramifications of letting unskilled workers meddle with old and nearly obsolete machines until it was too late.

Aegreian and his followers didn't get very far with testing out their ideas before they'd overloaded the old circuitry. The power surge grew in strength and size while the frantic grunts only made it worse; the only one one who realized the danger in time was Aegreian,who convinced one of his bosses to start evacuation. The two managed to get everyone out in time, but as their clanmates watched from a distance, a cyan blast mushroomed over their land, completely obliterating the entire factory and irradiating the ground with pure Lightning energy. Their work was lost, and so were their leaders.

If any of them had actually been able to keep their eyes open after the initial explosion, they would have seen a smaller, but equally as bright orange orb form in the heart of the mushroom cloud.

After donning protective gear and warding, they found a massive, faintly-glowing crater where their home had been. In its center were two bodies: one nearly indiscernible as a dragon, and the other completely whole and dusted in ash with a pair of brightly glowing feathered wings folded along his back. The immediate area was filled with a different sort of light, one that was warm and golden and smelled faintly of a bonfire. Aegreian blinked open his large, cyan eyes and lifted his head to see his clanmates staring back at him with incredulous amazement. Even their remaining superiors couldn't do anything other than marvel at the sight in front of them.

It took months for Aegreian to process what had happened. He'd died, that he knew. He remembered the flash and a burst of pain. Then he woke up and found himself altered forever, touched by the essence of Fire and given the gift of rebirth. But why waste such a gift on him? He'd deserved to die in that explosion. Only one life had been lost but years of work had been reduced to ash; that was worth far more than just one life in retribution. It was worth his own life.

As what remained of the leadership of his clan struggled to find order in the chaos, he snuck away and took to the wilderness, knowing they wouldn't punish him like he deserved. But a Fae with a powerful Fire blessing can't just wander the Shifting Expanse unnoticed. Word of this unusual traveler spread across Sornieth's mainland like wildfire -- Aegreian doesn't have particularly strong survival instincts, not to mention that he had to relearn how to fly with an extra pair of wings that hindered his movement (and gave away his position with their glow and faint aroma).

His sense of direction, however, is fantastic, and he met many clans and traveling caravans along the way. He spoke to them of his exile and his guilt, relaying his story to everyone who cared to listen in exchange for food and a temporary shelter to rest his wings. Soon, dragons began seeking him out, for the power of his rhetoric grew in notoriety. Aegreian found himself pouring out the depths of his soul to entire clans who listened with tears in their eyes and sobbed with him when he broke down after recounting how he felt as he left his family behind. And every time, they would rush to him and beg him to join their ranks so he wouldn't be alone.

You're so smart, so brave, they would tell him. We would be honored to have your mind and your courage in our clan. He would open his mouth to say yes as his heart leapt to be included once more. Finally, someone to listen to him and appreciate his ideas! ...the ideas that had nearly gotten everyone he loved killed. No, he didn't deserve that happiness. Each time he would turn away with a heavy heart and disappear before the temptation to stay became unbearable.

Until he found himself sobbing on the bank of a river deep in the Starwood Strand, completely and utterly broken after years of being alone. He had just turned down yet another chance to have a home and a family again, but this time was different. He wasn't sure why, but when he'd been telling his story to those dragons and he'd looked out at their glistening faces, he'd had the most compelling feeling that they had been just like him at one point in their lives: alone and ostracized by something in their pasts. Aegreian had left their camp almost immediately after finishing his tale, not even staying to receive his payment. But he hadn't made it very far before the weight of his guilt and his pain overwhelmed him.

"Hey there. It's getting dark. You really shouldn't be out here alone, the Strand's pretty dangerous after dark."

He lifted his head to see the face of the kind centaur who lead the clan that he had just run from and found himself shocked slightly out of his sobbing. He had stayed with sympathetic Beastclans before; the centaur clans were especially welcoming to dragons. But he had never met a centaur that lead a dragon clan. It was almost like... like a powerful Fire dragon leading a Lightning clan, and then giving him a blessing from the Flamecaller herself immediately before his own demise.

"Come on back to camp. You don't have to stay long, but please don't try to navigate these woods by yourself." The clan's two dragon progenitors stood a little ways behind her -- two Faes that regarded him not with pity but with compassion.

"Haven't you punished yourself enough, dear?" The female's voice was like the whisper of a fairy's wings.

Almost immediately upon returning to their camp, Aegreian realized he wanted nothing more than to stay with them. He was quickly welcomed into their ranks -- the clan's engineer, impressed by his method of solving problems even took him on as an apprentice. It's slow going because old habits die hard and Aegreian is extremely wary of causing another cataclysm (no matter how many times the Arcanist has assured him that explosions are an important part of the Arcane Flight).

But he has taken to his new role quite well, though he still spends a large amount of time alone in the clan's shrine to the Flamecaller. It has been many, many years, and he has yet to understand why he was given this gift. If he'd just listen as much as he speaks, he'd hear the answer: You were meant to do more than push a button.
