❁ STORY

Light spills from her and magic pools at her feet, it seeps between her scales and it’s whispered that she has the Gladekeeper’s own gifts: flowers sprouting in her footsteps, plants blooming at her touch. Even as a hatchling, lost between the trees, Kieri was soft and gentle. She wasn’t expected to stay, but her bright eyes and hopeful smile were captivating; and in her gentle nature Venin saw what he’d almost given up on finding: an heir.

Venin’s opposite in every way, Kieri was absorbed by the clan in a manner he never allowed himself to be; becoming a part of their family as easily as breathing. Where he had always held them at a distance, Kieri pulled them towards her; an inescapable gravity borne from her approachableness and friendly disposition. Content to pick up a craft and contribute in modest ways to their life, Kieri is honest, quiet, introverted and not given to illusions of grandeur; she holds no desire to be greater than those around her. However, her excellent mediation and interpersonal skills combined with her desire to see her clan mates happy have led her to solving many problems and conflicts that have arisen and so her position as clan leader simply happened around her. She continues Venin's work with maintaining peace between them and both other dragon clans as well as the beastfolk; only Kieri does it with fewer scowls and a more tactful vocabulary.

Kieri has a deep affiliation with the natural world and its denizens; her affection for the clan’s familiars is quite pronounced. Many of them felt so strongly towards her that they took it upon themselves to protect her. They call themselves the Hive and are led by her companion, Qaondril. While Kieri is a pacifist who practices magic solely to entertain and enthral and not for violence; her Hive will defend her to their last. Not only did her love of nature earn her the respect of the Federation, but is what helped her make her first friendships in the clan. She's often seen pottering about the lair, popping in to see Fen or Lotus. And they don't seem to mind.

Polite and charming when first impressions are being made; Kieri is rather reserved around most dragons and only truly opens up around those she trusts (though her love of words and learning combined with her occasional wry comments make her a delightful conversationalist no matter what). There are many in the lair who see her biting wit, well timed sarcastic comments and teasing nature, but there is only one who ever hears of her doubts and fears. Anthelion, who was her best friend growing up, who was always so perceptive of Kieri’s moods and never failed to lend a compassionate ear, remains her most trusted confidante. And no matter Kieri’s anxiety over being in charge of a whole lair (oh my goodness a whole lair full of dragons counting on her!) Anthelion is ever by her side with kind reassurances. Always, Anthelion makes her feel less like someone in charge and more like just herself. And Kieri is so grateful for that, for Anthelion.

ORIGIN / An orphan born beneath the great boughs of the Labyrinth, she has only the faintest of memories of her parents before they vanished. Mostly she recalls the trees and the birdsong, things she loves the Reliquary for providing. All she really knows about her family is that they gave her magic, the kind that creates life and colour. She wonders, sometimes, if they’re still out there. If they’d be proud.

Fact / The Hive actually insisted that they be allowed to protect her, an official ‘honour guard’ they termed it. As all leaders should be aware that some might intend them harm. Kieri was initially wholly against the idea, not liking the idea that they would be subservient. But she eventually realised that they would never follow orders anyway and Elika, her constant shadow, is now one of her closest friends. After Feldspar, Kieri is the dragon who interacts with the Federation the most. Something they are very pleased with.

Likes / Afternoons when she’s not busy doing clan things and she gets to spend them curled up with Anth on a warm sunny rock somewhere. Watching sunrises or sunsets are also things she enjoys; sometimes Anthelion wakes her early just to watch the sun come up. She loves flowers too and keeps a little garden in her living quarters. She reads a lot too; Pencil even lets her into the library, which is nice because Kieri really likes to learn new things.

Dislikes / Kieri does not like being reminded that she’s in charge of a whole clan. It makes her anxious. She tends to be a little on the insecure side and worries that she wears her emotions on her sleeve. She also has a special little angry place in her soul for anyone who says nasty things about the clan’s witches.

Interests / Tending to her little garden, or helping Osprey out with his. Sometimes she even helps Tarryn with her garden (it’s a family bonding thing). She also practices various types of artistic endeavours, mostly painting and weaving. There are multiple beehives kept in the clan as well and Kieri takes it upon herself to maintain them all. Bees are her favourite insect.
