Adair doesn't talk much about his past, but considering he was a distinguished arcane researcher before an "unfortunate gembond accident" got him reassigned to this remote station studying nothing of consequence, and the fact that his wings are literally made of quartz, it's not hard to piece together what might have happened.

That was a long time ago, though, and he's had plenty of time to think and reassess his priorities - especially since his condition exempts him from most of the chore rotation. Nowadays, he's handling his glorified demotion with a grace that would have been uncharacteristic of his younger self. After all, he fits right in with Merrill's collection of weirdos, right?
  • He doesn't miss flying; rather, his biggest complaint about his new situation is that having two giant freezing quartz statues permanently attached to your back is hell when you live in the Southern Icefield. His clothes are stuffed full of heating packs at all times.
  • Also, they're heavy. He's fairly strong, but just walking around tires him out. Keir mostly asks him to hold things up when he's doing repairs.
  • The kind of guy who would joke about having a tragic backstory.
