CLAIRE

Claire has devoted her life to writing down the events of the world, the history of the Order. She keeps scrolls upon scrolls in her lair, each describing a different point in time, from the arrival of the Founders to the evolution of the Order, and the recent events as well: The coming of the sleep sickness affecting the male dragons, the shift in power, the rise of the Matriarch. She has a secret, though. Claire does not only write down historical events, she loves to write stories for light entertainment, inspired by the members of the Order and their relationships. Thick roots of the great trees grow deep in the Viridian Labyrinth, their mighty crowns obscuring the light, only a few rays of light managing to break through and spend warmth. The wind is blowing, shaking the masses of leaves, and the water of the springs is pattering. The faint smell, the sweet odor of flowers is in the air. On the floor there is a wooden sign, overgrown with gorgeous blossoms never seen before, which reads in faded runes "The Order of Salvation". Closed off by solid walls of roots and bramble lies the territory of the Order. A home Saviik and Relfaadrii initially built for their children has now grown into a lively village, home to a variety of Nature-devoted dragons. They are all members of the Order. To them, this enclosed area is known as "The Monastery", where they grow their own food, catch fish in the streams and rivers that run through their territories, and hunt for easy prey that dares to trespass their beloved homeland. Only rarely do they leave to scavenge or gather in other regions of Sornieth as their loyalty lies with Nature and Nature alone. As vast as The Monastery is, as various are the trees and flowers that grow there. Gaea, a Coatl lady who has devoted her life to the science of all that is living, has created a beautiful garden of foreign plants for the Order to use - to gather seeds, to reap new fruits and vegetables, to take in the beauty of Nature that is everywhere to be found. The beginning was long ago. The clan has since changed. It became secluded, the dragons wanting to be by themselves. The devote Nature dragons build a wall of bramble as a border, and the Order of the Salvation was born, and their land was called the Monastery. The Order thrived, and grew, hatchlings being born and raised and trained to be warriors, some staying, some being offered the opportunity to serve the Mighty Gladekeeper, which many a dragon has taken. There had been something in the air ever since the new year had started, more than four centuries after the very beginning. Something that crept closer with each passing day, with each dragon that went to sleep only to never wake again. They weren't dead, no, Relfaadrii could hear Saviik breathe and saw his chest rise and fall evenly. He was alive and well, just slumbering. And so were other dragons in the Order. The curious thing was: It only affected the males. And soon there was a shift, a shift in how the other females saw Relfaadrii. She was no longer one of the leaders. She was the Mother. The Matriarch. Ever since the male dragons had fallen asleep one after another, ever since the Matriarch, Relfaadrii, has taken the burden of organising the Order by herself, there had been an air in the Monastery, an atmosphere that felt quite different from what the members of the Order had been used to. It was heavy, ominous, as if something was about to happen, something horrendous. The arrival of Flawless, a male hatchling unaffected by the sleeping spell, raised questions. Why wasn't he affected? Where did he come from? What type of dragon were he and his companion, Strawberry? Nobody in the Order had ever seen any dragon like them. Were they the reason the males were all put to sleep? One day, a miracle happened. The sleeping dragons had awakened once more! But the Matriarch was none the wiser. The cause of the spell, its being lifted. Nothing made sense. Relfaadri didn't waste much time thinking, though, as she was too delighted to be back with her mate, Saviik. However, the previously formed structures remained: The Order was still under Relfaadrii's reign, and Saviik accepted his role. The newly awakened dragons followed his example. The only thing that stayed the way it had been was the underlying fear all the members of the Order felt. To guarantee safety, the majority of the clan hid away, only leaving the strongest warriors to guard the territory and the future of the Order. Years had gone by and the regularity returned to the Order. Was the threat gone, finally? There was no way of knowing for certain, but the dragons of the Order were at ease. The Matriarchy and the Soulsong Warriors protected them still, getting rid of anything that may pose a threat to the Order using any means necessary, even if it meant to purge a dragon of its magic, of its soul. Those empty shells would still be useful to the Gladekeeper, and they were to fight for her alongside the worthy, exalted warriors who were regularly trained and prepared for battle. |
