CLAN KINWRACK
it is well that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it

A clan of Fae dragons allied with the Beastclans, Clan Kinwrack’s territory on the shores bordering the Sunbeam Ruins is made in the remains of an ancient honeycomb lair until recently occupied by Longnecks who were in turn vanquished by territory-hungry dragons. Clan Kinwrack in turn dispatched the new draconic occupants of the seacliffs and have maintained a stronghold here since.

Ferociously warlike and keenly interested in making an impressive show of wealth and force, its armies, riding out on elks and wartoads draped in elaborate armor and finery and trophies to the noise of drums and rattling bells, are both formidable and extravagant–and brave to the point of stupidity, utterly unafraid to face foes many times their size.

IDEOLOGY

Clan Kinwrack is a zealous cult that adheres to the belief that the Lightweaver operates according to a secret plan to eventually vanquish all of Dragonkind from Sornieth, restoring the land to the Beastclans. Her plan remains a secret so that she can continue to harness the power of dragons and her fellow deities to eradicate the Shade, leaving behind a clean world for the Beastclans to start afresh, and in the meantime her apparent thirst for scholarship and knowledge serves to allow her to create an expansive library of Beastclans history, salvaging what remains from the destructive tendencies of dragonkind. This mighty library will be bequeathed to the Beastclans after the Final Machination--the day that those loyal to her cause and the Beastclans themselves will rise up to defeat dragonkind and the deities, and the Lightweaver will return to the space outside of time.

Key to the Kinwrack Mythos is the concept of the Emperor: not a mistake, they claim, but an intentional maneuver: the natural destructiveness of dragonkind, weaponized against dragons themselves. To become a part of an Emperor during the Final Machination is the fate promised to Kinwrack Imperial allies: truly the finest of all honors, a glory unmatched by any that can be achieved through any other means.

It is the belief of the Clan that all dragons exalted to the Lightweaver are either aware of her plans, or will be inducted into the secret orders that will bring them about when they are brought to the Lightweaver's side.

While the zealots of Clan Kinwrack are nominally willing to sacrifice themselves for their cause, it is their belief that the Lightweaver looks after those who adhere to her tenants, and thus they believe that they possess the secret that will spare them the great cleansing of the Final Machination, and deliver them into a future of peace and prosperity...

MAGIC

Clan Kinwrack's great secret is that it is possession of a certain sort of powerful shapeshifting magic, the rituals of which are known only to the highest-ranked and most-trusted clerics of the Clan.

The members of Kinwrack, once initiated, are capable of shifting between various Beastclans forms at will, as well as a Beastclans form as-yet unidentified, although it bears a strong resemblance to the Dryads with some draconic features. Dragons inducted into the magic later have a more limited selection of forms, and experience more emotional and physical wear and tear with each transformation than those inculcated in the magic from a young age, or those with natural magic affinities--which is to say: Arcane dragons, and Fae.

It is this latter group that comprises most of the Kinwrack ranks, Arcane or otherwise. This serves a ritualistic purpose--"you are now one of us"--and also serves a practical purpose, as frequent interaction with Beastclans and inhabiting a former Beastclans lair means that compact sizes are more than a convenience--they are at times a necessity, allowing members of Clan Kinwrack free access to places barred from larger creatures, allies or no.

Because of this ability, Clan Kinwrack embraces the idea that those gifted with this magic have been fated to be spared on the day of the Final Machination, to be permanently bound to their Beastclans forms, shedding their dragon skins and living in the new and clean world, granted peace at last.

Those loyal to the Kinwrack cause but unwilling or unable to undergo the rites necessary to gain shapeshifting magic are considered The Hallowed--those who will inevitably perish in the great battles of the Final Machination. They may also be Imperials who have been promised a role in the creation of the Great Emperor of the final battle.

CLAN STRUCTURE

Clan Kinwrack, due to its strict ban on interaction with non-Beastclans-friendly dragon clans for its live-in members, is largely self-sustaining and trades almost exclusively with Beastclans. This means that in addition to its active fighting force and its small crew of mages, it has active herds of livestock (both for trade and for materials and because certain formerly-non-Fae members of the clan have retained their taste for meat) and some land reserved for agricultural purposes, as well as craftsmen, scavengers, and traders. The twins Warp and Weft are particularly vaunted for their marvelous talent with all manner of fiber creation and weaving--their silks especially valued by the Serthis--and Impulse, the resident Botanist, has earned some small fame for her remarkable talent at producing poultices and even culinary products.

Kinwrack values utility and multifunctionality in its members, and expects even the meekest of craftsmen to be willing (if not skilled) to contribute to a fight, whether it is through magic offensives or sheer physicality. There are some exceptions to this rule, including certain of the ruling clerics, some frail and elderly members, and of course Gennesaret--the magnificent and beautiful Imperial who serves as the Clan's interpreter and as a sort of mascot.

Kinwrack's military tactics are varied. In large-scale battles their offensives are largely magical, although they possess some physical fighters, most notably The Wasp--a deadly, swift-flying warrior who tips his darts in poisons. They are also in possession of a Mith-created beast, half-machine, half-flesh: The Machine, an enormous clanking unstoppable force of destruction.

They prefer, however, to engage in guerrilla operations, targeting dragons who are active threats to Beastclan allies, freeing Beastclan captives from imprisonment or menageries, or simply sabotaging where able.
