» Biography

Sekk is a cold and indifferent dragon, frail and sickly in appearance but an incredibly potent magic user and wise beyond his years. Many within Shal'anir know him only as a twisted oracle of sorts, and the bleached bones and tattered rags that Sekk adorns himself in do little to help this. He won't associate himself with many of the clan, only talking to those who he deems worthy and intelligent enough to understand him, blatantly ignoring any attempts to be spoken to by 'lesser' individuals with a distant and uninterested stare. He seems to be a dragon who has a huge chip in his shoulder and has placed himself on a pedestal in an attempt to ignore it. For those who know Sekk personally, this would not be far from the truth.

Once a Paragon of the old fabled order of Shal’anir, Sekk was old when the last empress before Vesper was crowned - and is now older still. For the empress, Sekk was an oracle. He was capable of deciphering the truths from the lies; those truly worthy of their titles from those who wore it as a mask for their twisted intentions. For years Sekk kept Shal’anir safe from all that would taint it and lived up to his title of 'Truthsayer' a thousand times over. What he said was listened to and what he did was followed. He was a highly influential member of the order and paragons began to obey him as they would their empress. He was respected and revered, presenting himself to young would-be paragons in judgement of their entirety and old veterans alike as a figurehead for that which Shal’anir stood for. It was a cruel irony, then, that Sekk did not see the lies he was beginning to weave himself, becoming that which he protected his home from.

The ruling council, a council that Sekk himself was a part of, was known for making morally grey and often outright cruel decisions in the name of Shal’anir. He was no stranger to it and had even grown desensitised to the pain and agony he caused. So much so that, when the council turned upon one of their own, Sekk agreed with them and condemned the paragon in question of misconduct and intent to deceive. It was only too late that Sekk realised he had been played as a chess piece, becoming the figurehead for an act that caused a capsizing of Shal’anir and bringing about riots and raids at the atrocious act committed. Paragons who once respected him now called for his head and he lost all allies within his home. When given the choice to admit to his choice as betrayal to Shal’anir and be spared or refuse and be killed in retribution, Sekk chose another. He instead redacted his own title and turned his back on Shal’anir. He would not support the path he saw beginning to form and left; an outcast by moral choice unwilling and forsaken by those who had once praised him.

Truly, Sekk the Truthsayer was no more. Instead, he took up the new title of 'Deathsayer', for it had been by his word he'd caused the needless presumed death of a greatly influential, morally sound (by his grey standards) paragon and fellow council member who had desired nothing but a safe future for their kind. He knew nothing but lies and, as he stepped away, the intrinsic web he wove himself into began to unravel. All he had done was made apparent and, while not much is enough to bring the paragon any sort of emotional pain, it had come upon him in such waves it crippled his body and mind alike as if it were as much physical as it was mental.
For years more Sekk wandered through the lands without rhyme or reason, getting by off the land and turning to a much darker magic to study as a means to keep his mind active. He was one of the first to feel the pull of Shal'anir once again, the great tree within the Tangled Wood having been hidden for entire centuries behind thick blankets of shadow after a purging of corruption (that being the order Sekk had fled from) saw her halls fall silent, and he was one of the first to make the journey to find the tree. The shadows brought him some solace from his eternal pain, but it was when he glanced upon Shal'anir for what felt like the first time that his darkened heart was truly soothed. Gazing upon the boughs of ebon and iridescent night highlighted by the bright foliage that naturally came with the Tangled Wood brought about an emotion he had not felt in a long time. Beneath him, the very land shifted up and down. It was minute and unnoticed at first but, as Sekk looked longer and deeper, he found he could feel the land moving beneath his paws. Shal'anir was breathing and was as sentient as himself, after all. If his mind had not been made up prior, then it would have been in that moment.

Shal'anir was not the same as she’d once been, but the feeling was the same. Sekk took up the mantle of oracle and advisor for the matriarch of the land, answering her call for guidance whenever required of him and being allowed to practise his magic when not. He still answers to his accursed title of 'Deathsayer', refusing to take up the mantle of paragon, and it's one of the few things that can make the dragon quick to anger if pressed further than his first dismissive answer. He's content to be the untrusted, sceptical and cruel advisor of increased moral ambiguity. After all, that was what he became when he left his position before, and he would rather stick to that than answer to his old title ever again.

APPEARANCE
Sekk is incredibly frail in appearance, with spindly limbs and fragile bones. His feathers are tattered, just barely able to lift him into the skies, and he wears the very minimum that proves to only accentuate his already unnerving appearance. His signature adornment, a bleached stag skull complete with the antlers, hides his expression from anyone who looks at him and serves to intimidate even the hardiest of warriors.

TEMPERAMENT
The skydancer possesses one foul temperament. He's eerily, even frustratingly, unmoved by all around him and responds with a complete emotional deficit beyond irritation except in the most extreme of cases. As a result he's often left to his own devices - he's hardly pleasant company - but there are a few dragons within the clan who have managed to appeal to Sekk enough that he tolerates their presence.

MAGIC
Sekk uses a powerful magic unlike any element known to Sornieth. It manifests in black and white, writhing and twisting in his grasp, and seems to infect and corrupt anything that it touches. It can spread like wildfire, devastating all caught in its path, but Sekk seems to have a tight grasp on it and goes unaffected by the magic he uses. Other dragons, however, are not so lucky.

The Arrival «

The lone figure moved through the shattered wastes on a limb of bone and petrified bark; as much part of the landscape as he was a spectator. Shades of ebon and ash marked the carapace of the traveller, the muted tones of grey and teal echoing the tormented land around him as shapes and amalgamations of pure emotion rose up and twisted into the swirling crescendo of the sky above.
His gaze was of ice, set solely on the fragmented shape that cast a wicked shadow across the land and suffocated all beneath in perpetual shadow. He moved with purpose and desire; a deep-rooted need that made itself manifest in such a way that to deny it would be a misendeavour maddening to even the most stoic of creatures. The behemoth drew in those who could hear the call; singing a sickening melody that was not akin to the sweet sound of an Empress he had once known. It was frenzied and hollowing to hear, promising nothing of grandeur and threatening all who dared approach - yet, it was also a silent cry for help in the sea of a thousand doubts and one he would not ignore.

On the pinnacle between light and dark the figure halted; teetering on the edge of everything. The shadows cast by the shaded tree beckoned to the stranger, yearning with cruel intentions for him to take that final step forward and succumb to the madness around him. The great behemoth could not be soothed in its' agony and had twisted as the wasteland around it had. Nothing could be done by this point, but he did not care for even attempting to aid the great tree. Such was the fate of those who questioned authority.

With a disdainful hiss at the wicked limbs of shade that crawled towards him, he allowed himself to be cast into the umbral lour of the tainted behemoth. Shadows twisted and writhed around him, tangling on his staff and limbs in an embrace as gentle as it was maniacal. Never did they resist his movements or attempt to halt the figure as he moved. Instead they led and called; guiding into shades of ebon and ash, muted grey and teal, and not once was harm cast upon this lone traveller.

Sekk, Deathsayer and Fallen Paragon of the Cathedral, had returned.
