➳ Maren Ambassador ▲ Melancholy - Observant - Graceful
NAME - Another spelling of hypnotic; the state of having features of hypnosis. Mated to - Bio - Ever since he was a small hatchling with soft feathers of down, he loved watching the Maren around his birth Clan swim in the icy waters of the Southern Icefield. 'Water Dancers’, he called them. As he grew and learned to fly, he would glide along the surface of the water as the Maren swam below. He was always observing, never interacting, always worried that his presence would be less than pleasant in their domain. One day, he was perched upon an ice floe, watching the Maren catch fish until he saw one staring up at him from the edge of the frozen structure. He shrieked and fell backward, then hid behind his wings. Slowly, slowly he peeked over them to see a Maren girl also looking at him in fear. Slowly, the two approached each other. As they began talking, the two realized that they were both of the same string--worlds that only observed but never interacted. Every day they would meet, and chat of things of their culture, answer each others’ questions, enjoy each others’ company. One day, she didn’t show up. Hpnotiq soared above the shivering sea, brows in a knit, a knot of worry in the pit of his stomach. A knot that tightened when he heard her terrible screams. Harpies had hooks in her body that were tearing at her as they struggled to fly away with her. Hpnotiq screeched in anger and ambushed one of them, snapping their neck with a crunch of his jaws. The other three, who far from went down easily, dropped their hooks and attacked him. Though their sharp talons ripped at his hide, Hpnotiq hardly felt them; his turmoil was too great to give his wounds acknowledgement. In minutes, the harpies lay dead in the water, ice spears through their body, causing more damage than their hooks did to his friend. Sobbing, mind finally out of primal rage, he carefully pulled the hooks from her body and held her close, chittering sadly. The Maren from her Clan found him with her and first assumed he killed her. After a moment of inspection, they saw the now frozen harpy corpses and the hooks discarded on the ice. The Maren slowly approached him and took her body, then led him to the rest of their party. For an hour, he sat upon an ice floe in tears until their chief rose from the sea and gifted him two beautiful feathery wings made of the waves themselves. Today, he helps strengthen the bond between dragons and Maren, never forgetting the friend of his adolescence. |
