The Mother of Shadows

"Hide and seek, search and find! Where is it, where are you? Little foot, little foot, come out wherever you are..."

The sing-song voice of a young Coatl rings throughout the forest, calm and playful in tone, though unsettling in words. Stepping in the pine needles with eyes spread in delight, she thrusts her head into a bush, searching.

"Found you, found you! Come back here little foot!"

Suddenly, a severed coatl paw jumps on her head, then finds its place and reattaches itself to the hatchling's left leg. She shakes it a few times to make sure it's secure. Laughing, she bounds through the wood, not paying any attention when her tail falls off behind her.
