Calavera craned her long neck to see all the way around, up into the sky and down at the ground. “It’s beautiful…” she said, her fins twisting a whisper. She was sitting on Valiant’s head, so she must have easily heard Calavera’s awe. With a soft chuckle, she looked around, too; her eyes stayed level to the horizon. “I wish I could see what you see.” Calavera reached up toward one of the many crossing lines of magic, the stream of life that kept them all breathing. They stood on the edge of Light territory looking in, so it was no surprise that the bright yellow magic of Calavera’s patron was the most powerful. These energetic rivers were the things dragons fought for, these things they could not see but were nonetheless very real. With a sigh, Calavera took down some notes on the map that Valiant had made of the terrain. “I wish you could, too.” “You can see which Flight is dominating here, right?” Valiant asked. “Oh, yes. Light is very strong, of course, but Shadow and even Earth have very strong currents here, too.” The thickest streams of magic from Earth were brilliant beige, sparkling in colors calling back to gems and geodes. “The best place to camp would be right there.” With that, Calavera pointed toward sunburnt copse close to Lightning territory. A confluence of magic met there shimmering like a rainbow of color. “Great,” Valiant said. “Let’s head back then. Or do you have more notes to take?” With her fins, Valavera shrugged. “I wouldn’t mind sitting here a little longer.” Valiant turned her face up as though she could see the Fae sitting on her head and smiled. “I guess I wouldn’t mind that either.” |
These denizens dedicated their lives to protecting their piece of the ruined column, and preserving the strength and significance of their element. Calavera possesses a gift that isn’t uncommon to dragonkind: the ability to detect the magic that surges throughout the world and keeps their bodies alive and refreshed. Mapping these currents is constant work, due to the dragons’ wars with one another for dominance at the expense of all else. Calavera does this for the Tempest Chase, ensuring the long-term campsites are amenable to all elements at least to a degree wherever they are. After all, a dragon will become sick and die without access to their element, and that just won’t do when there are wars and monsters to fight. There is no place on Sornieth where this magic isn’t available, but there are certainly some places where it is more available than others. Though Calavera is not a fighter, she has been an integral part of the Tempest Chase since she joined, and she has no intention of ever leaving for other areas. After all, she’s seen so many beautiful sights and been to so many distant shores she can’t think of anything else she might want more. In addition, the Chase keeps her undertaker mate busy, as well. When she’s not busy mapping or traveling with the Chase, Calavera and her mate Jack often visit Calavera’s friend and colleague Valiant at her home in a kingdom on the sea between Light and Nature. Sometimes other friends from the Chase will accompany her, simply because to the average fighter of the Chase the little Faes’ lives seem much more normal. They’ve seen the world together, they’ve loved, laughed, cried, raised children, and would do it all again. Not many can say that. As a Light dragon, the pursuit of knowledge is close to Calavera’s heart. Her academic interest in dragon wars (and enthusiasm therein) is sometimes taken the wrong way by her more cerebral colleagues, so she tends to stick close by her fighting friends… though they misunderstand her, too. For a dragon that’s so well-liked and popular, she finds herself most at home in the quiet company of the ones that love her best. |

» Calavera received her surname Sugarskull upon the dedication of her life to a career in mapping magic, granted by her old clan. » Most of the dragons in the Chase count her as a friend, as well as many of the Chase’s clients. Her travels make her an interesting conversationalist, and she has many good stories of the places she’s seen and the battles she’s watched.
