Varick stumbled upon the Aquam clan one day while wandering the Sea of a Thousand Currents for something, someone or someplace to protect as his Charge. The sea had once more grown restless and Varick found the members of the Aquam clan fleeing back into the safety of their lair. He watched from a bit off, opting not to venture too close to the foreign lair. As he kept his gaze locked on the retreating dragons however, he failed to notice a large wave come up from the sea behind him. The next thing the Guardian knew, it was like he was body slammed from behind- the force of the wave colliding against him knocking him right off his feet. He was pulled under the surface, promptly blacking out.
He awoke an unknown amount of time later, finding himself laying atop some comfy foliage that had been laid out to act as a makeshift bed. He felt a sharp pain his tail; only to see a dragon trying to wrap his tail in white bandages. Another dragon of the same species as him, Xandra, approached Varick. Xandra told the male Guardian that she had taken him into their lair after he was knocked unconscious by the wave impact and that he had injured his tail in the process. It was in that moment he realized that Xandra was worthy of being his Charge as a way to repay her for potentially saving his life.
Varick secretly has a thing for Xandra. While he acts intimidating while in the presence of others, in actuality he is actually quite kind for a Guardian.
