BACKGROUND
Perhaps the strangest thing about Mackinac is what her green eyes immediately give away, or would, had she not taken to wearing a cloak; that she was a Nature dragon making a home in Plague. It was not a dissatisfaction with her born element that saw her wandering away to the practical archenemy of the Gladekeeper -- quite the opposite. Even as she loved the grasslands and forests of her home, she recognized its natural cycle that should, by all rights, have ended in death, and grew curious to see what the world was like outside the Viridian Labyrinth, and in the domain of the Plaguebringer, where logically the world would be the opposite.

The Scarred Wastelands proved to be true to their name, but Mackinac quickly grew fascinated by the life that still grew there unsheltered by any benevolent god. It was difficult to find a clan that would accept her into its ranks -- upon hearing of her birth element, she was frequently attacked or turned away -- but Clan Cetus proved welcoming, and the challenge of growing a new piece of the Gladekeeper's domain in a land so hostile to it was one she could not refuse. She grew fruits and vegetables in dark underground caverns fertilized by Isotope's creations and lit by Spiral and Ridgeback-dug tunnels, bioluminescent mushrooms to provide light to the caverns of the clan's lair, and cultivates the seedlings of trees in the inhospitable desert earth, bringing ash from the Ashfall wastes and seedlings from her home with the help of Amauri.

It wasn't the most successful endeavor. But that was a part of the experience, coaxing things to life, and as far as she had planned she had years to make it work, even throughout the constant skirmishes between other dragons and beastclan. It was, in the end, not to be.

Mackinac was one of the few to survive the battle that destroyed Cetus, taking flight with its leaders and settling down in Sierra Grove. Behind her, she left the ruins of the garden she had tended, and her best friend, now part of the Emperor which went on a rampage through Plague lands in their wake.

She returned to Nature. For a while, did nothing -- depressed by the realization that she'd failed to save him, that he'd become what Imperials Sornieth over feared. But then she met Manitou -- a Grove botanist, studying the phenomena that occurred among the mountains on the island, and despite her reluctance, he grew on her, with his warmth and understanding and gentle quiet.

Now together as mates, she and Manitou have built a greenhouse complex among the desert; growing plants where there used to be sand, and in the meantime studying the way the forests atop the mountains spiral onto the sands, when by all rights, they shouldn't.

PERSONALITY

Mackinac is by no means gentle -- while she is wholly devoted to the flight she came from and cares for the nature she tried to coax to life in the Plague soil with her magic, her demeanor can best be described as eerie; her expression is difficult to read at the best of times, and her cloak and curving sets of horns do little to make her seem approachable. She is fiercely independent and as wild and distant as the forest, though any interest displayed in her craft will go a long way down the road to making friends.

She's generally a little prickly at best, short-tempered and prone to snapping at trivial things, even around those she knows and likes. She's possessive of her home and constantly alert about anyone who might seek to threaten it, or anyone living in it. She's not particularly great with communication or social interaction, and tends to spend her time among plants as long as she can get away with it.
