"...before the storm." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ When one brings up Nyx, the words "tough love" often come to mind. She's one half of a lone wolf - the other half being her twin brother Orpheus - and generally likes to keep it that way. Despite being the more talkative and driven of the two, Nyx jealously sticks close to only Orpheus. She's always been passionate about her duties, a fact that often shows by how ardently she keeps Orpheus and herself on that path. Even when she was young, Nyx was the one to keep her and her brother out of trouble, drafting up extensive plots to get food and anything else without being seen. Due to the constant shenanigans that Nyx stirred up, and getting caught one too many times, their clan sought to be rid of them. No matter, for Nyx sought to leave. Solitude seemed preferable to her, but then they had a run-in with the Frozen-Sea Clan, who had long since been looking for dragons to join their ranks and the second-in-command, Rairye, was confident that he could tame the twins. After much debate, the two joined. They were initially trained to be warriors but it quickly became apparent that their skills lied elsewhere. Honor was not something they cherished and they dealt pain far too easily for knighthood. They were then trained to be spies, but Nyx chose to be the clans only assassins instead, and Orpheus agreed. Even after becoming a member of the Frozen-Sea family, Nyx still prefered associating mostly - if not only - with Orpheus. She feels respect for her clanmates, but rarely any familiarity or kinship. If it weren't for Orpheus' insistence, Nyx likely would have left long ago. Countless times she tried to convince him to leave with her where they could do as they pleased once more. "I like it here." Orpheus didn't look up from the armor he was polishing, his tone as even and level as always. Nyx grit her teeth to keep from tearing the bracers out of his claws. "I'm aware," she replied dryly, "but I still think our talents would be best put to use alone." She paced the length of their shared room, feeling like a caged animal. Orpheus shook his head and brushed off invisible flecks of dirt from the metal of his armor. "We are not alone though, are we? You have me and I have you." Nyx waved an impatient claw at him. "Yes, yes," she snapped, "sibling companionship is a magical thing. But don't you think we could get so much more done if we set out on our own?" Orpheus put aside his armor and eyed Nyx, looking thoughtful. This was the worst thing about him, Nyx thought. No matter how many times they'd had this argument and no matter how many times Nyx phrased the same questions, Orpheus always considered them as if he were for the first time. Annoyingly obliging, always. "Perhaps," Orpheus replied before setting into his armor once more, "but for now I think this is what we need. The clan is good to us." Good to you, Nyx thought bitterly, but she was done with bickering for the moment. She slid into her bed and stared at the ceiling, annoyance pecking at her chest. |
