A unique breed of Wildclaw has developed on the cliffsides of the Reedcleft Ascent. They bravely test their airborne skill and strength against the raging air currents, living as a constant challenge to the forces of nature in which they build their home. Calling themselves the Gale Raptors, their scales and feathers display extravagant colors, which are made all the more brilliant by their gorgeous wings fluttering constantly in the winds around them.

These raptors have evolved enormous, flashy wings to attract each other's attention. They communicate through elaborate displays, in dances that begin on the ground and often end mid-flight. They have a tendency to squawk and scream when excited, to the chagrin of any neighboring dragon lairs.

Gale Raptors live in enormous family groups, although the subtypes do not usually interbreed. They prefer to nest together whenever possible, so that their hatchlings are always guaranteed to have siblings and playmates. Raptors who are preparing to lay a clutch build colossal nests of reeds and grasses directly on the ground. Nearly every Gale Raptor in the flock will participate in the nest building process - even the smallest hatchlings can be seen collecting twigs for the nest. Because they treasure large families, Gale Raptors often lay their eggs within days or even hours of each other, so that the entire flock is nesting at the same time. Although this can be perilous, as it leaves many of the Raptors vulnerable, their mates will defend their eggs (and their nesting mates) to the death if necessary.

Most Gale Raptors are dedicated, loving parents. Like the Windsinger himself, they pride themselves on large, frequent clutches, and they dote on their many children. Mischievous by nature, young Raptors are playful, daring, and quite clumsy until they grow into their large wings.

Gale Raptors are especially proud when their newborn hatchlings display bright, glimmering scales on their bellies, as they believe this will help their children succeed in finding a mate. In truth, most Raptors look for stunning colors and bold patterns in a prospective mate, not Glimmer.
