Biography
Member of the Winged Order
|
Born to a wandering tribe of Wildclaws, Canopy had always been somewhat of an outsider - not only to those clans which settled in one place, but to their own tribe, too. Rather than follow in their tribe’s druidic footsteps, it just so happened that the egg hatched at the wrong time, in the wrong place - enter Canopy.
Of course, Canopy was clueless. It had only occurred to them that they could possibly be different when other hatchlings conjured up newly sprouting plants with ease, and all they could muster was a mess of crackling sparks, merely discoloring the soil once they landed on it. Perhaps thinking the same as they did, the elders simply gave up on them, and the young Wildclaw was assigned other duties - none of which involved magic of any kind, thankfully. During this time, Canopy was determined to, if spellcasting had been a failure, prove their physical capabilities instead. Day after day, no traces would indicate where the dragon had gone off to this time or another, yet a fresh kill would arrive when least expected, always accompanied by a signature clawmarked leaf. If they kept this up, surely they’d be recognized for their talents too, right? But the days Canopy spent away from their tribe lengthened, and even as the moon’s rise lulled the Labyrinth to sleep, a small dragon ran around on their own, tearing off nets and snares and pouncing on those who didn’t even need them. Perhaps the small encampment was their tribe’s territory, but all that was outside belonged to Canopy. The rush of freedom, the feeling of being in control of wherever they went, but most importantly, of themselves - it was as if the gods themselves had sent a message. When the sun rose, it finally had dawned on them. By noon, they were gone; by the fourth noon they’d found a place that caught their interest. It was a camp, like those they were used to, but more elaborate - it seemed this place was meant to be permanent. Following a recent surge in attacks on local clans, this clan happened to be in search of a way to strengthen their defenses, and though they didn’t seem short on fighters - a scout could come in handy. Nowadays, Canopy spends more time outside the Clan’s grounds than inside them, enjoying the freedom it offers them while nonetheless dutifully fulfilling their task. They do, however, happen to be somewhat prone to distractions - but as long as no one can match their speed, that’s hardly a hindrance. |
