Simon was named after Simon Petrikov, an archaeologist in the cartoon show Adventure Time, who finds a magic crown that gives him power over ice and snow. Unfortunately, it also made him totally nuts, and in the main timeline of the show, he is known as the Ice King, an annoying old wizard who is constantly kidnapping princesses.



Simon is my chosen progenitor dragon!

Simon is a very excitable fellow. He finds everything around him fascinating, and is always eager to learn and discover new things, particularly about natural history. That's why he named the clan "Thoracosaurus". When Olivier and himself were clearing land for their new home, they came across some fossils in the bedrock. Simon halted all work on that spot immediately, and riffled through his small library of references with almost frantic effort, so excited he was to determine what creature these bones were from. Olivier continued constructing the camp, quite freely voicing her annoyance at him for not helping and for blocking off a large area right in the ideal spot for a den. But Simon couldn't possibly give up until he found out what these bones were, and was already formulating the plan to name their clan after whatever this creature was. He was sort of hoping it would be something a little more majestic, but, he's still very happy and proud of their namesake. The fossils are proudly displayed in a case (built together by Van and Corvus. Corvus insisted on being involved, saying it would look "crude" without his input), that sits just outside of Simon's den in a nice sheltered alcove, where the rest of his books (that won't fit in his den) are shelved.



He recently befriended a Longneck Hunter named Kern, and the two worked to form an alliance between their clans (Clan Thoracosaurus and the Lichen Clan of longnecks). Kern helps with hunting trips, and is rather upfront when it comes to sharing advice about hunting practices. She doesn't procrastinate; as soon as the hunting trip is over, she'll get started skinning the game and sorting out the meat and parts useful for crafting items. Sometimes she teaches hatchlings how to use her tools. Some clan members find her rude, but Van can always be trusted to join her on a hunt.
