Biography
Cernunnos
"The Worldspeaker" Patient | Spiritual | Modest | Unshakable Earthen Shaman and Speaker of Ancestors Ambassador to the Clans of Dragonhome Founder of the Clan of the Wild Path With a quiet breeze and the sounds of distant birds awakening, the sun barely peeks its blazing head over the cracked, rugged horizon. The air is still cold from another starry night, and many dragons still lay asleep in their dens. But at the crack of another dawn, Cernunnos slowly walks his rugged form to his favorite sturdy boulder and oversees the sunrise. Carefully, he moves a drum before him. With old leather pulled tightly over the rim and paintings all alongside it, it's a miracle the object could survive so many years in treacherous Dragonhome. But when his claws ran across the surface of the stained leather, his brown eyes lit up. The energy and warmth, the deep song that was yet to be played, it was enough for Cern to know - the drum was not an artifact to be treated lightly. It was his voice. With beams of sunlight washing over the barren landscape, painting the mountainsides orange, Cernunnos began to play his song, one of a countless list of songs, to greet the new day, to pray to his ancestors who watched over his Clan, and to honor the Earth, the very living being that sustained him and his Clan without ever asking anything in return. A smile crossed his coarse, aged features. How long he had left for his world, he was unsure, but he was certain of this: A simple, spiritual life, filled with happiness and honoring those before you was enough to keep him alive forever. Cernunnos is an old Tundra with an age arguably far older than even the eldest and wisest of the Clan. Rumors float among the Clan that despite his distant Tundra ancestors hailing from the frozen realm of the Icewarden, Cernunnos may have indeed been alive shortly after the Pillar shattered and served as one of the Earthshaker's first disciples. When approached about his age, he simply laughs and muses with you: "Would you ask a boulder how old it is? Or would you simply accept its existence?" When the Clan of the Wild Path first formed, it was through the combined efforts of Cernunnos, Goldfleck, and Berylwarden, the then-refuge and freshly reborn Heart of Steel. When Beryl arrived in Dragonhome, battered and torn asunder, it was through Cern's immense field knowledge and kinship with the Earth that she was able to recover and become strong enough to serve as leader for the Clan. It warms him to this very day to see her so energetic. Arguably, Cernunnos should have been clan leader. There are even some dragons who consider him as such. But to him, life is far too troubled already to deal with the added stress. Why? With an excellent leader already overseeing the Clan, the old Tundra can focus on the finer things in life: Working with spirits and ancestors and helping his fellow kin. Cernunnos is a spirit worker. It was far before his memory that he remembers feeling another lifeforce around him. He believes to this very day that the Earth is a living thing, speaking its own language and breathing life into every Earth dragon. He's also mused that the other realms are similar in that their Deities, in their war against each other, had projected their own life into the grounds they had created. Such a selfless energy, constantly giving and bearing for the dragons that walk upon it, needed to be revered. He's also very in-tune with the ancestors of the land. Just as he can hear the Earth, the claw marks of dragons from long ago often resonate deep within him as well. He doesn't so much 'worship' them as much as honor them deeply, for without the ancestors, where would they be now? Using his drum, he speaks to them on a wavelength he believes they understand, with his very heart and soul going into every beat. And with all of his spirit work on his plate, he also serves as the Clan's Earth ambassador. While the Ambassador project was designed to find allies in other elemental realms, Cern finds allies in Dragonhome. It's something he enjoys deeply. At the end of the day, Cernunnos will sleep only briefly through the night, waking up before the dawn to play his drum. He will then sleep throughout the midday, as the heat of the sun will still, after all the years living here, make him uncomfortable in his fur coat. He enjoys snacking wherever he goes, with berries being his favorite. |
