Regal is a pompous coatl who makes no secret of the things he does with the cauldron. He and his Serthis companion, Will, are devising new and potentially disastrous toxins at all hours of the day. Althra has made no attempts to stop him, and at times even encourages him. Her reasoning is vague at best.
Regal is also a fairly philosophical dragon, constantly questioning the abstracts dragons take for truth.

Regal is not officially mated, though his frequent trysts with Tara leaves the truth ambiguous.
