B I O G R A P H Y

Todd’s favorite pastime was always making hats. His scales crawled whenever he saw a hatless dragon. He couldn’t bear to be without a hat himself, as he was bald and often got cold. Where this odd fixation came from, he didn’t know. Perhaps it was because the Southern Icefield was always cold--frozen, even, and dragons had to bundle up and wear hats because they would freeze if they didn’t.

Todd didn’t much care to know the reason why, though. He just wanted to make hats for every dragon he met. What better way to do this than with a traveling market? Skyloft was exactly what he needed to push his hat agenda onto everyone. He sought out Milan, the financial manager of the clan, and begged for a space for his hatshop. He pulled out many hats to show Milan, who actually cooed i delight over the quality--she cooed! Todd was sure he’d never seen a fae do that before. His fate was sealed.

The hat shop flourished under Milan’s touch. Todd was much wealthier now than he was in his ice clan. He’d brought nothing but his hatmaking materials with him, and now he had a thriving business, too many hats to ever wear in his lifetime, and a stunning mate who designed apparel to mix and match perfectly with Todd’s hats. Todd and August wanted for nothing, as they had almost everything. Life was perfect.

____A more gorgeous dragon had never graced the hatshop’s threshold. Todd found he was stumbling all over himself to help the tundra find suitable headwear. The tundra was probably sweaty enough under all that fur, so Todd made him a hat that served mostly to keep him cool. Unlike Todd. Todd wasn’t being very cool with this tundra.

Todd was sad to see the tundra go, but it wasn’t long before he came in again. The tundra was wearing Todd’s hat, which made his heart twist into dozens of knots, true to spiral form. Todd again helped him find a good hat; the tundra left. He came back again. And again, and again. Until finally, one day, Todd jokingly said, “if you keep coming around, I think I might misconstrue your intentions.” To which the tundra replied: “I thought you already knew what my intentions were.” Todd about put Zahhak to shame with how red he turned at that.

____Somehow it had become tradition for new members of Skyloft to be welcomed with showers of gifts. Maruchan offered a bowl of ramen on the house. Sunriser offered a free drink to go with it. Julian offered a blender, though many passed on that gift on the advice of other dragons. Mestrel offered one free use of her cauldron, and Grinder offered a discounted serving robot to make cleaning the shops easier.

Todd couldn’t offer a service, like Mestrel, or a meal, like Maruchan. He could, however, offer a complimentary hat made in the new Skyloft dragon’s likeness. He’d done so for everyone who joined the clan after him, including August. He’d made one for dozens who had come and gone, but he was mostly proud of the ones he’d made for Zahhak, Maruchan, Beryl, and even Lizard Frank, though Lizard Frank had no job in the clan. All the dragons found these hats so silly that Todd started selling the custom designs.
