Her portraits were immaculate. Her landscapes captured the very effervescence slumbering in the lands. Her still lifes looked as if life had truly just paused for a minute. Lelune had skill beyond her short years, and she knew it. She took the paintbrush and made magic on the canvas. None were privy to her process, not even those whom she had held closest to her at the time. Lelune kept her studio private, and would not accept any apprentices for any reason.

She kept herself private now. She had suffered too many betrayals in her life to justify letting anyone else in. The scars on her shoulder were proof of that, her last mistake before she shut herself off. Despite trying once more with Antiope, she knew the relationship wouldn’t last. She let it fail as she watched Antiope watching Sveta zip around above the breezeway, as she watched Antiope decipher the bouquets Zerila gave her.

Lelune threw herself into her paintings. She tried new techniques, she mixed new paint colors, she put all her energy into dynamic poses so that she could improve herself. Somehow, she would improve. She wasn’t sure how, but as long as she produced stunning piece after stunning piece, Lelune would one day emerge from her studio a changed dragon. But she feared that that day would never come.

_All That Glitters_

____No jewels were worth this, being confined to a gilded house. He could give her as many gifts as she liked, and she would pretend to love him back, but she could never hide the disgust she felt for him every time his claws touched her. Lelune wanted nothing more than to escape. She had no way to escape. All the servants turned away when she looked at them for help. They were all at his mercy.

Enough. Lelune had had enough. She had cracked from the pressure. She would die in this place if she did not leave. And so she planned and plotted. She enticed him with sweet words and wine one night until he was sleepy and happy. She began to sneak away, but he jolted up, more alert than Lelune had thought. He grabbed her so hard that her shoulder began to bleed. She wrenched away from his grip, struck him with a candlestick from the mantel. She didn't check to see if he lived. She left him unconscious and on the floor as she fled this forsaken place.

_Artist's Touch_

____She first picked up a paintbrush long after she had fled his influence. Though unskilled at the time, she crafted abstract paintings full of the trapped and nervous energy she had always felt in her cage. She slowly began to improve, and slowly her income increased. She often bought shiny things for herself, despite the stab of panic she felt when she did. The scars--they ran much deeper than just the flesh.

Lelune graduated to portraits. She captured emotions even her subjects didn’t know they were feeling. She had become observant during her entrapment. She could scrutinize and spot even the tiniest details from the scenery around her. Lelune hoped that one day she could paint herself without seeing only a bleak and barren desert in her eyes. She suspected it would take a long time; perhaps it would never happen. But maybe she could start with this brightly colored guardian decked in pink.
