According to some Irish myths, Cliodhna is a goddess of love and beauty, and she has three brightly colored birds whose song is said to heal the sick. She left her otherworldly paradise after being smitten with Ciabhan, a man who happened upon the island during a storm at sea. She left with him, but in a sad ending, she is separated from her mortal lover when a wave washed over the boat where she slept while Ciabhan was ashore hunting.
