From the time she was a young hatchling, Alcyone exhibited a deep curiosity towards all things magical. It began with her interest in Mana Thiefs. Watching the insects steal energy from other creatures and using it to power their bright pink glow filled her with wonder. Too little to understand, she tried eating them to see if they would grant her special powers. Put off by the taste and evident lack of superpowers, young Alcyone soon tried catching and keeping them to study rather than to eat. This was to the relief of the dragons of her home lair who were becoming concerned about the scarcity of the rare bugs. To this day, Alcyone still likes to keep a couple of Mana Thiefs in her possession as a reminder of where she got her start.

As a young dragon, she left her lair and traveled around for a time before she became acquainted with a traveling band of magicians. Quickly making friends and fitting in with the group, Alcyone decided to join them. She spent three years traveling the Tangled Wood with them all the while honing her skills. She became a skilled illusionist and

Her prowess and interest in the magical arts are often attributed to being born to a Shadow nest but raised in an Arcane lair. Even after deciding to return to her native element of Shadow, Alcyone has always retained a little bit of Arcane magic in both her powers and her personality.
