It's easy to take a wrong turn in the Wilds. So simple to lose all sense of direction in the dense tangle of growth. Finding one's way is not always as simple as flying above the trees to see the sun and the Behemoth and the horizon, as sometimes the branches and vines are too dense to even do that. The lucky ones have an innate sense of where to go; the rest must take the time to learn, or risk disappearing forever into our Labyrinth.
Hudson learned. He came to the Wilds for a challenge, and found the most difficult challenge of his life: to learn the Wilds' ins and outs by heart. At first he learned for his own benefit, so that he could search for a clan to join without fear of being lost. Then he found one who was lost herself. He led her to the edge of the Wilds, found her clan, and his purpose.

He used to just find and lead dragons himself using the light on his hat, but then he found a spell that allowed him to summon wisps that do his bidding. Some dragons are scared of the wisps, having heard the legends of them from the Tangled Wood, but most are happy to have any light and warmth at all on a dark night. The wisps stay with the dragons as reassurance until Hudson comes.
