Pitahaya was traveling with his clan back to the Southern Icefields when a disaster struck. Blown by the easterly winds, he tumbled down alone into the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Battered, bruised and utterly alone, he was perfect bait for a Maren scouting party. He would have been nothing more than a meal if Sanibel and the other aquaponics dragons hadn't intervened. The clan had always had a volatile relationship with the Maren, and with so few warriors they would always be an easy target. Luckily with some careful negotiating and several trade deals, a tentative alliance was formed. Due to these somewhat friendly relations, the clan was able to negotiate for Pitahaya's life.

Eternally grateful, he followed them back to the camp. After some weeks, he was finally in good enough health to start helping about the clan, if a certain other Nocturne wouldn't keep trying to impress him. Eventually, he grew to love this small but persistent presence, and the two became the clan's official foragers, flying to remote locations in search of trinkets and treasure to help the clan prosper. He serves as a calming and rational presence to the naivety of Aomikan, always keeping a close eye on her during their travels. The two have become quite the team, and even Aomikan's strict parents have developed a soft spot for Pitahaya. He doesn't know what happened to the rest of his clan, and despite asking around on all of their expeditions, he still hasn't figured out what became of them. Even if he were to find them, there's no way he would ever be able to leave Aomikan's side.
