Skyy

Skyy's notorious wit has gotten him in trouble again. At his crew's most recent port, they found the nearest tavern so they could get fed and slake their thirst. Once they entered, he spotted a beautiful, hand-carved chessboard at a lonely table in the corner. He was certain that it was older than any dragon he knew, and undoubtedly worth a small fortune. When the establishment's owner noticed his interest, he asked if he'd like to play a game, warning Skyy that he is seldom beaten by anyone but the very best players.

Skyy feigned uncertainty, remarking how long it had been since he last played. He wasn't sure he was up for such a challenge.

This gave the barkeep an idea. "I'll tell you what. I'll go easy on you. But if I win, I get that stylish hat of yours! I'll wear it for a laugh when there's a dull moment in here."

"And if I win, I take this old beat-up plank of a chessboard back to my ship."

"Fair enough, stranger. I hope you're ready for this! I said I'll play nicely, but I don't see you leaving with that headgear!"

Skyy initially played it safe making every move obvious and by-the-book. As the game went on and the barkeep became more confident, he let his true ability show. The game was over within moments. Obviously, Skyy was the victor.

The surprise on the barkeep's face was quickly replaced by anger as Skyy scooped the board and every last piece into his arms, whistling to the crew of the ship as he ran for the door.
