I was born in a run-down orphanage in the wind territories, my egg had been swiped from illegal dealers on the black market. I was born without any markings, so my caretakers assumed I had no parents and was born from a deity. I always had close ties with the earth, it calmed me, gave me a sense of home and stability.

Though one day that life would crumble. While on a ship headed north to find another life, my vessel was boarded and ransacked by pirates. They killed most of the crew and enslaved others, I was thrown in with two other guardians in a cramped cage. They told me the life I had before me. The ship was pulled by a team of guardians, and there would likely be no escape from this life. Although, I had fortunately smuggled a journal onto the ship, and documented my experiences with the pirates. This journal, unbeknownst to me, was the one reason I still had a will to live, and kept me from growing insane. My name is Xamidimura. This is my story.

~~~~~~~
Log 73
Micah is dead. He fell on the starboard deck and was too feeble to stand. They threw him off the bow to get rid of his dead weight. I will miss him, he was old, and kind. There is only three of us now, the workloads are only getting more tenuous. Silvie is getting sicker, I give her my rations so she will have strength. The crew members are annoyed by our slowed pace. They only lash us more, I can tell their success is dwindling.
Log 74
They plan to acquire another slave at the coliseum. They will enter a competitor for a battle and if they win, they will get their reward. Turrent will be sent to fight since he is the strongest. I worry for him, he was a measly woodworker before being enslaved. It would be tragic if he was slaughtered.
Log 75
Turrent is scared. I can tell, his confidence in himself is crumbling, he won't even eat. He fights tomorrow, when we reach the docks. The seagull came back today, it brought me a red feather. The smallest crew member stole my rations, I starve in my corner; alone.
Log 76
Turrent went off the bow for battle in chains. I sit quietly here in my own metal constraints, writing in my journal while Silvie sleeps peacefully. I can hear the commotion of the coliseum from the docks. The land beckons me, leads me home. I hate the water, it makes me weak in spirit. My heart is tied to dragonhome, no matter how far we sail, I can always sense where it is, my home.
Log 77
Turrent lost the battle. He's dead. My captors are furious. They give me his bloodied axe and say-in bad dragon speak- that they will have me fight tomorrow. Why they depend on me? I do not know. I find their stupidity hilarious but also infuriating, for I am the one in chains and they are gambling bigger things than they can see. They have seen me write in my journal. I will throw this book off the ship in a bottle with a message to whoever finds it: Help us. My name is Xamidimura. I am (or was) aboard the Aure Scaska against my will. We go by the Verd trading areas often, find us on a vessel with a black snake symbol on the canvas. Please help. There are many others.
She fights in the arena-victorious-and returns to the vessel
Log 78
I took this new journal while passing a shop, the fae slave let me take it with a stern nod. The dragon whomst I fought was formidable; he did not surrender easily. We fought viciously, the feeling of ground underneath me gave me strength. I drew power from the earth and defeated him. It broke me to have to kill him, in his final moments, he told me his whole family was killed, and would give anything to see them again. I killed him quickly, taking the victory in subdued celebration, Silvie was glad I was alright, she is recovering. Two new guardians are aboard-freshly captured-and they don't stop babbling to us and the crew members. That must have been what I was like before I learned to keep my mouth shut. I pray to the Earthshaker my message reached somebody.
Log 79
The extended rests due to the new workers gives me more time to write and think. My seagull returned with a scrap of shiny cloth today, I gave it food in reward. I don't know why I care for this bird, it seems like something to do while I am restrained in the ship. Something is happening to my scales, I only really noticed it now-but markings are appearing on my wings, and lines of cyan blue on my body. My fins are bright blue and my crests are also accented. Fascnation with myself borrows some time between work intervals, Silvie tells me my face is dark blue with a dark horn-like crest on top. She has become my closest companion, I hope we are never separated.
Log 80
I have gotten around to talking to the new slaves. One is Baksa, a male guardian with dark green and grey coloration. The other is Shiiva, a lithe guardian with light green and pink markings. Her underbelly is similar to my wings. Baksa was an apprentice healer, stolen from the battlefield. While Shiiva was stolen from her small village in the Icefields, she has been traded and bought around ever since. Baksa is a good soul, he teaches basic survival methods to me and Silvie. While Shiiva is cold and sits alone most of the time, I can't blame her, the poor kid was traumatized by these evil beasts. Though I can't really say dragon kind treats them much better.
Log 81
I name my seagull Corky. He came with a scrap of wet paper today. I grow feeble as I travel away from land, exhaustion steals everything from me. Shiiva is resistant to the labor, even when I scolded her. She is determined and damaged, I feel awful for her experiences but every slave on this ship needs her to shut her mouth, I have seen the captain's fury firsthand.
Log 82
I cannot help but sleep constantly. When I am off interval I feel so weak I just collapse. Silvie and Baksa gave me their rations but my strength ties to something much deeper. I hope I recover soon. I don't want to end up like Micah.
Log 83
My wing is cramping horribly, Baksa is making something for me with the limited supplies he has.
Log 84
We are nearing land again. I feel it in my bones as I grow stronger. I wager we are heading to Verd again, will someone have gotten my message? I pray to the Earthshaker tonight.
Log 85
We are at Verd. I am given an off day as my captors gamble for money and drinks. Silvie told me another story of her childhood in a nature clan. Clan Verdant, it was called. Silvie says she wishes to return if she escapes slavery. She also thinks my journal is my charge, since I protect it so venerably, I guess I don't disagree.
Log 86
Shiiva is getting on my nerves, she ate Corky. That was my only friend before Silvie came. I will never forgive her, or maybe I will, it was just a bird. but it was MY bird. I am tired, we ship off tomorrow.
Log 87
I am giving up hope my message has reached anyone, Baksa and Silvie tell me not to be so negative. I don't know how much longer I can go on. Shiiva is planning something, I can sense it.
Log 88
I tried to befriend another gull today. Instead got laughed at by the captain.
Log 89
My suspicions were correct, Shiiva was planning something all along. She escaped her bindings and killed some of the crew. She almost killed the captain. They had her bound the moment she let them overpower her, the captain brought out something different than a whip. The crew avenged their fallen by beating her to death. She was never meant to go out this way, I wish she has found her family in the afterlife.
Log 90
The captain is in a fury. He whipped me for accidentally breaking a crate of supplies, even though it wasn't my fault. He hit me across the eye, Baksa says it will leave a scar. The dark and light markings on me grow, my disconnection with the earth has taken a toll on my essence.
Log 91
Baksa and Silvie are being forced to breed for another slave, I support their single egg. I feel so humiliated, my captain now uses me as his personal steed, reins, saddle and everything. I guess he trusts me as I have survived the longest. My wings are very sore, Baksa says I should stretch them, so I try.
Log 92
The captain rode me to a busy port, I carried a small amount of rations back to the vessel. But something intrigued me, a small fae spoke in my ear : "We have gotten your message, Xamidimura, help will arrive soon" I have never felt so hopeful and giddy. Silvie and Baksa are ecstatic as well, I feel sad as I thought Silvie loved me more than Baksa, but I guess things have changed. She still loves me, she says, but I know she doesn't love me like I love her.
Log 93
Another ship has appeared on the horizon, my workload has doubled.
Log 94
So much has happened today. But first, I am freed.
The ship was my rescuers, they had tracked out vessel since our last visit to Verd. There was a great battle on the top of the ship, my captain killed Silvie. I cry another wave of tears as I write this-she died protecting me, after the captain found out it was me who contacted help, he was going to kill me. Silvie fought him while Baksa and I escaped, her egg in tow. Her last look at me was not of pain, but of happiness. So this is what true grief feels like. Freedom is new as well, the chains that held me are no more, I now have a chance to live a life, but at what cost? I remember each life that was taken on my journey, every single one wasn't deserved. Baksa will travel back to his master, to raise his child alone. I will live in Silvie's legacy as well, I will find her birth clan and tell them what she has done for me. My skills might give me a home there.
Log 95
My new captain gave me my first journal back, rereading the logs brings a fresh wave of tears to my eyes. Something in me feels complete when I look at my journals, I believe they were my charge after all. We are reaching the docks now. For once, I walk on and off the ship of my own will. It is such an odd feeling, but I would like it if it stayed. I say goodbye to the sailors, the ones who risked their lives to free me. I thank the stars, maybe Silvie, Micah, Turrent, and Shiiva are up there. I will move on, but the memories and experiences live on in these journals.
