"One day, I'll be the one protecting you...as soon as I'm stronger." Edlyn is a princess from another clan who has come to train under Ely, who once saved her life. Originally hailing from the Hewn City, study is second nature to her, and she is fervent to perfect both her mental and physical abilities. Her old life was far from pampered despite her title, however - her parents and tutors were strict and demanding even though she was not in line to inherit the title, and she thrived under their guidance...until the day she decided to rebel a little and sneak out from under the watch of her guard to do a little exploring of the world outside her clan's borders. While reveling in her freedom, she saw a fellow guardian who was scarcely out of his hatchling days beset by some members of the beastclans and unthinkingly charged in to help. Unfortunately they were stronger than she was and soon overwhelmed her. Her life would have ended there had not another guardian done as she had and charged in to save her. Luckily for Edlyn, Elyta was stronger than her and managed to dispatch the beasts, though she was too late to save the other guardian. Ely escorted Edlyn back to her clan, but Edlyn never forgot her strength and courage, and when she was finally permitted to leave her home to search for her charge, she knew right where she was going. Growing up in a monarchy, she found the clan's lack of politics and hierarchy odd. There were admittedly fewer disputes among placating coatl and gentle scholars, but Edlyn privately wondered if a dynasty might not crop up in the future when the clan was more established. She was not sure how a court would fit into - or alter - the clan dynamics, though. Whenever she expressed anything about this to Ely, the other guardian just shrugged and said that nearly all of them are adults and ought to be able to sort themselves: all they should worry about is how to best defend them. Edlyn's musings became reality, in a way, when the prince Shadowstar reformed the clan's government. Though not a traditional monarchy, she does take greater comfort in the more solid structure of the clan's new governing body. Edlyn managed to befriend the shy coatl Ix and went out of her way to spend more and more time with her, delighting in getting her to open up and express herself. Though the two are not overly affectionate in public, the more astute dragons in the clan have noted that they are obviously a couple. |
