Biography
Loreley ("murmuring rock")
Art by SerpentRose
Born from Njord, the severe God of seafaring, and Nott, the bewitching Goddess of the night, Loreley was created to become a force of equilibrium. Alongside his half-sister Ran, Goddess of storms and the drowned dead, the Siren’s role within the world was to lure ships and their crews to their doom. The mysticism of the sea was to be kept. Any mortal to brave the waters knew his life risked being forfeit to the waves. Such was balance. Order. For centuries or more, Loreley did so, using as weapons his allure, his voice and songs blessed by the Gods. His powers, irresistible. His legend grew, his voice became known throughout the land, men and women tripping over themselves to catch a glimpse of the ethereal, strangely beautiful merman hidden in the rocky cliffs, lead by his songs. He begun to be prayed to, even. Always diligent with his siren’s call, he fulfilled his role with relative apathy, contrasting strongly against his sister’s appetite for mayhem and obvious enjoyment of the destruction she caused. Ran has every right to love killing. It was the whole point of her existence, after all. He simply never related.
Centuries went by. Loreley’s lack of care about his task morphed into questioning. He still did everything right, sat on his rock, brushed his hair and sang sailors to their deaths, but all the while, he wondered why. Why wreck ships under the veil of the night, his mother? Why wreck ships at all, considering his father was the patron of all men who built and sailed those vessels, the very God they all prayed to? Worship the God of seafaring; death to all seafarers. It made less sense each passing crash, until one day, Loreley stopped. Instead of leaving sailors to drown, the Siren started pushing their bodies to shore. Instead of leading vessels into rocks to be shredded, he sang them through the reefs. In these moments, his apathy dissipated. For the first time in centuries, he felt. And desired to feel more.
What happens when a God mingles with mortals he was meant to kill? When the Siren’s call doesn’t feel so threatening anymore? When the equilibrium is tipped? …And when Loreley catches feelings for someone he wasn’t meant to save?

Oh, the song of Loreley
Charms the moon right from the sky
He will get inside your mind, loveley Loreley
When he cries "Be with me until the end of time"
You know you will ever be with your Loreley
And the winds would cry
And many men would die
And all the waves would bow down

“And last time, it was that crazy storm. None of us saw it coming, split the boat right in half, that it did. I loved that boat, man. Still not over her.”
“I formally apologize for my sister’s violent ways.”
“…Your sister?"
“The storms? Goddess of the deep? She’s had many names throughout the years, I might not be aware of what you call her on land anymore.”
“Ran? Your sister is Ran?”
“Well-”
“You’re brother to the literal embodiment of all the bullsh!t we sailors have to deal with?”
“As I said, my sincere apologies.”
“…Apology accepted.”
