Biography
ASTRONOMER
[ EMPATHETIC | THOUGHTFUL | KNOWLEDGEABLE ]
Fai knew the storm that was coming was sure to be one of the largest the kingdom had seen in a while. For days the clouds rolling in were ominous in colour. A dark grey that seemed to swallow the blue sky whole, enveloping it in total darkness and disarray. There wasn't much time, he had to let the royal court know of the approaching hazards.
The court, while always respectful of Fai, dismissed the claims of how dangerous the storm would be and sent him off to monitor the storm from afar.
That night was one of the worst storms Fai had ever seen. Large gusts of wind tore through the trees, heavy rain flooded the river bends, animals were shaken from their homes and many plants were washed away. The thunder boomed with the vigor of gods and the Lightning struck with the ferocity and power of a cobra lashing out at its prey. Fai knew the animals would have to work hard to survive through this one.
The morning after the storm however, was a beautiful and bright sunny day. Fai awoke to the soft sound of birds chirping and a faint breeze wafting through his window. Upon getting up and looking outside everything was positively bright and green, lush with renewal after the rain and promises of growth and refreshment to come. But... He knew there was more behind the face of beauty. The animals and plants that did not survive would surely be missed in this habitat.
He pondered for a while, on what was really the best outcome of all this. The deaths were certainly not an uncommon occurrence for storms that large, but was it necessary? For many people they would say no, that every animal deserves to live the fullest longest life they can. But Fai knew better, he knew that this process of life and death was fragile. He knew that even in death the other animals and plants would benefit from their fallen brethren in the way of food and nutrients, that even though in these dark times, someone would always prevail. That was the cycle of life.

"I awake light-hearted this morning of spring,
Everywhere round me the singing of birds --
But now I remember the night, the storm,
And I wonder how many blossoms were broken."
