Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife. 
Nascentes morimur bloodline - "From the moment we are born, we begin to die." This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Vigil's children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain. Archetype: Celebrant Thrill Seeker: "They are looking for anything reminding them that they are alive, and for many, the purest way to do that is looking for adrenaline thrills."
Nessa's clutch started out relatively normal. It wasn't her parents' first, probably wouldn't be their last, and certainly didn't hold anything of particular interest. Just three round eggs, lightning crackling at the core. They didn't stay normal for long. A blight hit the nesting grounds. It withered all the eggs away to nothing the night before the day the nest was supposed to hatch. Heartbroken, Ulla and Perilin began to name the hatchlings that the eggs had originally contained and give them a burial. They laid them to rest and thought that was the end of it. A few days later, when a daughter from an older clutch was there to pay respects, she heard scratching in the grave. A few minutes later a dark colored pearlcatcher shot her head up, letting out an excited little squeak. On her back rode a familiar, the true mark of a dragon who had cheated death. Nessa was raised on a pirate ship alongside her parents, her sister, and many others of her blood. She grew up both a fierce warrior and a siren of the high seas.
