While having indeed supposedly dedicated himself to the devious works of the Shadowbinder, the only allegiance stronger than that to the Shadow Flight goddess.... was his own personal Goddess. Mother. He, alongside his brother Zolean, served her, and her alone. The dedication to the Shadowbinder was all but a mere act of cover so not to reveal his - and in turn, his Goddess's - true intentions. An act that he had played well.

Merric was not one for family. The only family member he had not yet sold or killed, was his dear little half brother Zolean. Not even his children had been spared from his lack of empathy. As for the Testament of the Newly Scalled, the cult he had so dearly devoted himself to.... He could have honestly cared less for the dragons that still remained. Only his brother and Goddess mattered. No one else. He had personally sold off his elder sister Neon just so he could go up in rank. And this had continued, to where he had tricked each member and either sold or killed them for his own personal gain. But he was not stupid. He knew that in numbers, there was strength. In numbers, came power. And he would do anything to ensure his Goddess's success. He had only merely.... weeded out the weak so to ensure that the strong would continue to survive.

And while having indeed been a Pearlcatcher inflicted with the narcissism that has been so commonly stereotyped to his breed, Merric never once let his narcissism get the best of him. But in that same narcissim, he prided himself in his ability to act. To deceive. To cheat and steal and lie himself all the way to the top, to gain exactly what he wanted.

Very many dragons, young and old alike, had been played and tricked by this dragon who had so devilishly used his charm, his good looks, and his ability to easily read someone, and used it for fun, or for his own personal gain. He left no one spared. And while it was a dangerous gamble, it was one that he, once again, played all too well.

The cult has vanished. The cult is nowhere to be seen. Mother and Merric are gone, and Zechalis and Mangle are too weak to lead. In their place, Azla has taken the throne. The two are weak, themselves. So they cannot even take action, themselves.
